In the most stellar season of the Russian television project "Dancing with the Stars". A professional dancer left to perform for Germany at the age of 15, and now lives and works in the USA. During a short visit to his homeland, Andrei told TUT.BY about the first disappointment from the show, the Belarusian dance school and how such tournaments can bring in money.

This year, the project involves Russian-speaking dancers who live and perform abroad. Andrei suggested that probably the emphasis was on the fact that Russian guys who went abroad for glory eventually returned and want the championship here. In addition, according to him, those dancers who have lived abroad are more versatile, because they master the techniques of both the European and American schools.

At first Andrey was not interested in the project: he has a professional career that he values. When you leave for three months, you fall out of a professional rut, says the dancer. As a result, he was flattered by the promise that the main choreographer of the project would be Mikhail Baryshnikov, and his partner would be Olympic figure skating champion Adelina Sotnikova (she also participated in the project and, together with her partner Gleb Savchenko, took second place. - TUT.BY).

"Therefore, at first there was disappointment. As a partner, as a rule, you expect to see a thin, tall girl. Seeing the wrong picture, I was surprised. But when I got to know Irina better, learned her character, how strong-willed she is, my opinion changed. But the most the main thing is how talented she is, flexible, and not afraid to try. Ira and I joked a lot about this topic. During the course of the project, everyone got so comfortable with their partners that no one wants to turn back the clock and change their partner.".

The partners were selected by the main choreographer of the project, Alla Sigalova. Our interlocutor says that you have to be a fantastic psychologist to determine at first glance how to connect couples. There was a tough selection among professionals. Andrei suggested that the most important factor was that the dancer would suit a particular “star”. Although experience also influenced.

“A more experienced dancer always knows how to lead his partner correctly, how to save the situation. A good dancer is not just good-looking, but can present a star in the best light, bring her to the highest level.”.

“You need to make it clear that you are in the hands of a man who can always support you”

According to the concept, 14 professional dancers and 14 Russian actresses, athletes and show business representatives performed. It was necessary to find an approach to them, to help the partner understand that she could dance, comments Andrey.

"You have to be patient to build confidence, to see development. My task was– show Irina in the best light, different. Psychologically, it was necessary to let her understand that she was in the hands of a man who could always support her and not let her fall. As it turned out in the finale, when she was without me, she fell. She was afraid of this from the very beginning of the project. But in the finale this even became a plus, because the audience supported us even more. During the show we won 8 out of 10 programs".

Andrey does not deny that when you are together for so long, conflicts are inevitable. But, according to him, at such moments everyone quickly realized their guilt, understood when to apologize and when to remain silent so that the negativity did not grow.

“From Ira I learned to remain professional, hungry, and love what I do throughout the entire project”, - Andrey reflects on the experience gained. He says that his partner grasped everything on the fly and “she was very concentrated in every minute of dance and training, took a responsible approach to her work, which aroused respect.” Andrey recalls that he showed her the basic steps, how to hold her hands, how to transfer weight in the body, place her feet, and “Irina has natural control over her body, that’s the most important thing”. This is what, in his opinion, helped them develop much faster than other couples.

“In such projects, you need to present yourself correctly so that your partner feels your authority, understands that you know where, at what moment to go and what to do. But at the same time, it is important not to intimidate, but to win over. Ira and I have this It worked out. She clearly understood that she was in good hands, so she was not afraid of anything, because she knew that I would catch her.", - Andrey shares the secret of success.

“Belarusian trainers do not expand children’s dance horizons”

Andrey left Belarus at the age of 15 and now tries to visit his parents several times a year. Then his parents, foreign language teachers, did not earn enough money to send the teenager to competitions.

"The dance world requires a lot of money. There was no development, I couldn’t go to international tournaments or work with rating coaches. Then I was invited to perform for Germany with a Russian partner, and I agreed. It hurt me to leave, but I decided", recalls Andrei Kozlovsky. From Germany, according to the same scenario, he left for the USA, realizing that further development for him was only possible there.

Now he assured that he wants to give the maximum dance education to Belarusian children so that they can develop in Belarus. Andrey teaches in the studios in which he himself studied in Minsk. In his opinion, the problem is that America and Europe dance in different federations. The Russian and European federations are sports, and the American and English federations focus on the art of dance. Although in America dance is more of a business.

"Europeans don't follow those who dance in America. It's a shame when you come and people don't know about your victories, he complains. – It’s unfortunate, but Minsk coaches don’t expand their children’s dance horizons in order to keep them. Because of this, children do not develop fully. At the moment, a dancer in Belarus cannot fully open up".

We asked how dancing in America brings money. It turned out that the Pro-Am trend has been developed there, when a professional partner dances with an amateur who wants to learn to dance for his own pleasure. As a rule, these are rich, mature people, but there are also young and older clients. With a professional, they develop quickly and effectively.

“It commands respect when a woman doesn’t care what she looks like from the outside: she dances for herself", says Andrey.

In America, entire Pro-Am tournaments are held, and “Dancing with the Stars” is essentially the prototype of this format. In America, the entire dance business is built on this system.

But Andrey also has a professional partner, with whom he participates in professional tournaments. "I hope she's still waiting for me"“Andrey laughs and hurries to return after a three-month break. According to him, he is the only one from the project who also dances professionally. The remaining participants are focused on the Pro-Am direction, participating in projects similar to “Dancing with the Stars” around the world.

Andrey is convinced that there are a lot of talented people in Belarus, and if we work hard, we will have a lot of success in the dance field. That's why he wants to organize a dance tournament here as part of the Pro-Am. He believes that the development of this area will allow the federation to allocate more funds to educate a new generation of dancers.

At the end of the conversation, Andrei thanked the TV viewers and Belarusians who were rooting for their duet: “When you dance in Moscow and know that people from your homeland are rooting for you, it’s worth a lot.”

Andrey Kozlovsky is a prize-winner of the American Championship, semi-finalist of the UK Open, winner of international tournaments in America, England and Asia.

Actress Irina Pegova became famous after filming Alexei Uchitel's film "Walk", for which she received the "Golden Eagle" award and the prize of the "Window to Europe" film festival.

The show "Dancing with the Stars" is a charity show. All money collected from audience voting will be donated to charitable foundations. Each dance in the show is a separate story, staged according to an original script. The stars mastered classical and modern trends and styles of dance: ballroom, sports, (acrobatic rock and roll), historical. 2nd place and the audience award went to Adelina Sotnikova and Gleb Savchenko, 3rd place went to Svetlana Ivanova and Evgeniy Papunaishvili .

Unfortunately, we were eliminated one step away from the finals. We talked to professionals about how difficult it is to dance with amateurs, how relationships developed during the floor battle, and what their partners taught them.

Andrey Kozlovsky, partner of Irina Pegova: “Slow dancing was more difficult for us”

About his partner Irina Pegova:

I was told who my partner would be in the show “Dancing with the Stars” the day before the start of the project. And I began to actively “Google” because I knew nothing about Irina Pegova. I have lived abroad for the last 10 years, and her work has passed me by. As for my expectations, she surpassed the wildest of them. Irina surprised us first of all with who she is: with her personality and the facets of talent that she possesses. Her performance is simply inexhaustible! In the professional dance industry, I meet a lot of talented people, but this is the first time I’ve encountered a person who can be on set all day, work on camera, and after a 12-hour shift come to practice and work hard, dance with all his might. Irina Pegova is one in a million. She is a unique person - they say about such people that they are talented in everything. And dancing is one of her talents. I didn’t expect that I could teach an amateur in two days to do something that makes it possible to perform together at a professional level.

Irina’s main feature is that she is used to doing everything herself: she is responsible for her actions, she makes her own decisions. But on the floor, your partner still has to lead. And in order to make Irina feel more comfortable, I have to suppress my masculine qualities somewhere and dance with her on the same level or even let her lead a little. The strength of her nature and crazy energy, on the one hand, is a guarantee that she will always do everything 100% and not otherwise. But, on the other hand, in dance you don’t always need to show it - sometimes you need to let yourself be led in order to ultimately look even more graceful. This applies to slow dancing. They were just more difficult for us than others. But there wasn't a single dance where I could say that she didn't do everything 100%.

I learned from Irina not in words, but in deeds, when I was next to this person every day on the parquet and behind the parquet. First of all, she set an incredibly high bar for professionalism and showed by her own example how to approach the work you do. By and large, by the end she could have relaxed, deflated, but the person stands firm. Her energy is inexhaustible, and I am amazed where she gets it from. And Irina really loves to dance - she really likes it. She likes the project and the people who surround us. I must admit that the combination of dancer and actress is unique. We overlap in a very interesting way: we seem to come from different creative worlds, but in the process of working on the dance, a lot of common ground arises. The moment of togetherness when we feel like we can do things together - dance or even act out little skits - is magic!

Irina Pegova and Andrey Kozlovsky

About the jury's scores:

There is not a single “passenger” on the jury. The word of each of those five people who are present there is worth its weight in gold. Sometimes we don’t always agree with their opinion, but I think that’s normal. In creativity, judging has always been, is and will be subjective. Everything is decided by the individuality of each individual person: one looks at the costume, another at the expression in the dancer’s eyes, someone evaluates the position of your feet... In general, everyone has their own priorities. But the more opinions, the more you can take away for yourself and look at what you do from different angles.

Alla Mikhailovna Sigalova is the motor, the engine, the heart and soul of our project! It would be impossible to do this show without her. I am happy that I was able to meet this Woman with a capital W. She motivates us all and communicates with everyone on the same level, making no distinction between professionals and amateurs. Working with her is simply a miracle. Our second number to the music of Rachmaninov - it was entirely her work. Her approach to both dance and acting for me, as a dancer and not a professional actor, was a great lesson that I will remember for the rest of my life. This is a unique experience that can only be obtained on this project.

Alla Sigalova

About my personal life:

In fact, there is time for everything. He also takes it to meet friends. In addition, we have a very good atmosphere in “Dancing with the Stars”, and we communicate with each other on the floor: we visit clubs, go to various events, or just get together somewhere to sit and relax. This is also part of the project, and maybe even its soul. “Dancing with the Stars” is not only what happens directly on the floor, it is, in principle, our entire life, which we live together, as one big family, during these three months. But my heart is free now. But what am I saying: it’s busy with the project! We are all in love with it, we live it, and it is very sad that it will all end very soon.

Evgeniy Papunaishvili, partner of Svetlana Ivanova: “We worked to overcome”

About his partner Svetlana Ivanova:

Before the project, Svetlana and I already knew each other. We had the opportunity to work together on the set of a film in Vilnius. I was the choreographer in the film, and she starred in it. Then Sveta impressed me with her beauty and talent. Now that we have already walked such a path together in this project, it has only intensified. We've been through a lot on Dancing with the Stars! Basically, I couldn’t dance at first. After all, Sveta had never danced before. We worked to overcome. Sveta worked very hard to learn how to dance, as they say. You need to understand that all the dances were from scratch for her, so the scale of what she accomplished is truly amazing. And I am very proud of Sveta! I have several of our favorite dances: Argentine tango with a sword - it was a special dance for us, a number based on “ The Great Gatsby"and, of course, the last Viennese waltz - we are both delighted with it!

On what I learned from my partner:

Svetlana surprised me with her attitude to work: she is an absolute perfectionist. Before her, I had no experience working with actresses. And I was amazed at how meaningful she makes every move. For her, this is not just choreography, but the expression of a certain idea or emotion. I must say that, thanks to Sveta, I also began to feel the figures in dance differently. Drama has become incredibly important to me. Before that, of course, it had weight, but with Sveta it took on a completely different meaning. After all, if you pay attention, every dance is like a small movie. It's very important for us to show the story.

About the jury's scores:

In general, I gave myself the following instruction: not to discuss the actions of the jury. I didn’t always agree with them, but I always listened and am grateful to them for their constructive criticism. We move towards victory silently, calmly, with the determination to work, work again and ultimately win.

Elena Samodanova and Evgeniy Papunaishvili

About working with the main choreographer of the project Alla Sigalova:

I consider her an outstanding choreographer. Working with her is a great joy. She helped us with choreographing the dances. Overall, we have a wonderful team of choreographers: this and Kolya Pantyukhin, Ira Galushkina, Inna Svechnikova and others. Therefore, everyone is very cool, everyone is very talented, everyone felt me and, most importantly, felt Sveta.

About my personal life:

I have time for everything! I have two wonderful dance schools, and I am developing them. I personally teach a lot of lessons myself. I have a huge number of students. In general, the business is developing, and different projects are emerging. Personal life is also not far behind. Everything is great! Marriage, of course, is also in the plans. As soon as I decide to take this step, I will let you know right away!

Denis Tagintsev, partner of Ksenia Alferova: “Ksyusha’s most vulnerable place is posture”

About his partner Ksenia Alferova:

I didn’t think of anyone specific as my partner. Before “Dancing with the Stars,” to be honest, I didn’t know anything about Ksenia and her work, but I was glad to meet her and work together. She moves well, is charming and has a positive attitude. Most importantly, I see her development: from the first to the last program there was not a single dance that she would have done exactly the same as the previous one. With each release she becomes more confident and active, and her body becomes more prepared for complex figures and elements. Ksyusha's most vulnerable place is her posture. I need to constantly monitor my partner: she slouches a little. I straighten it every training session. Now she herself has begun to monitor her posture: even when she sits at the make-up artist and notices that she is slouching, she is getting better. Actually, everyone needs to think about this, including professional dancers. We already have it automatic: even when I sleep, I straighten my back. For Ksyusha, working on her posture turned out to be very difficult.

Although we are moving rapidly towards the finals, I have no goal of winning: this is not what I came to the project for. We just want to show all the dances. My goal is to bring aesthetic pleasure to the audience who watches the show and show them what we can do. If we don't win, I won't hang myself - that's for sure.

On what I learned from my partner:

I gained tremendous experience in staging numbers. The behind-the-scenes work was very important in the project. The approach to working on the numbers and their creative component were very interesting to me. It was the first time I had such an experience.

About the jury's scores:

I don't judge their work. For me, the scores are always quite expected and adequate to what we showed on the floor. It happens that the dance is really not very successful. Plus, everyone has their own purely personal opinion, which is strange to question. I can only say that they evaluate us with dignity and without strangeness. If I am strongly scolded, I can worry a little, but at the same time I listen to the comments and draw conclusions for myself. After all, criticism is a step for development.

Denis Tagintsev and Ksenia Alferova

About working with the main choreographer of the project Alla Sigalova:

Considering the fact that Alla Sigalova appeared only at our first two training sessions, I cannot say anything about her contribution to the project and to our couple. After the tango, she never came to us. Now I don’t see her behind the scenes at all.

About my personal life:

Every person always has time for personal relationships. And I have it, despite the fact that, in addition to “Dancing with the Stars,” I am also involved in other projects. I have dance clubs all over the country. I still have time to fly to various events in the cities where I have schools, and I never stop training professionally. But proper time planning has never bothered anyone, but only helped to get everything done. But I won’t tell you whether my heart is busy: let it remain a secret - it’s more interesting!

Evgeniy Raev, partner of Agnia Ditkovskite: “This is the girl from the movie “ZHARA”, and I’m dancing with her. Go crazy!

About his partner Agnia Ditkovskite:

Before the project, Agnia and I did not know each other personally. When they told me who I would be dancing with, I had the following reaction: “This is the girl from the movie “HEAT”, and I’m dancing with her. Go crazy! During the project, things often didn’t work out for us. We were unsure about some of the dances: whether they were worth taking and whether we could handle them. We managed to survive all these experiences thanks to the fact that Agnia and I communicate very well, one might say, like brother and sister. We are open to each other and have always been able to resolve all controversial issues.

Agnia Ditkovskite and Evgeniy Raev

I am very pleased with how Agnia’s evolution is going: over these couple of months on the project, in my opinion, she has become a completely different person - more self-confident. She began to work constructively. If earlier she might have worried that she wouldn’t be able to cope, now she doesn’t have any questions or doubts: they told her to do it - and she will train, try, improve, work like a real professional.

I always say that I didn’t come to the project to teach Agnia to dance. From the very beginning, I set the condition: “If I dance with you, you must cultivate a professional within yourself.” And, in my opinion, Agnia came to the semifinals at the peak of her skill.

On what I learned from my partner:

From Agnia I learned professionalism in acting. She showed me how important it is to emotionally experience what you do in dance. You can say that I learned to live the dance with her. In addition, her approach to training and performing over the last week showed me how important it is to fully concentrate and focus on the dance. I admire her highly responsible attitude.

Evgeniy Raev, Agniy Ditkovskite and Daria Zlatopolskaya

I’ll say one more thing, although it may seem funny. For the past four years, I have always shaved my top mustache (the stubble above my upper lip), leaving some stubble on my cheeks. It seemed to me that it was more beautiful this way. And then it so happened that I didn’t shave for several days and came to training like that. Agnia immediately noted this: “Zhenya, look, you really look cooler this way, you look more courageous and more natural. It really suits you!” At first I didn’t believe her, but then I came to do my makeup and also heard compliments. And after the broadcast there were so many of them that I realized: Agnia is really right! So she even influenced my image, and I’m very happy about that.

About the jury's scores:

In the latest editions of the evaluation program, we have simply wonderful and very pleasant comments from the judges. I am delighted and very grateful to the jury members for telling us the right things during the project. I take criticism constructively. It happened more than once during the project that the judges advised us something and we later took their tips into account. We both remembered what was recommended to us and automatically made adjustments during the dance during training.

About working with the main choreographer of the project Alla Sigalova:

Alla Sigalova gave us very important advice. She's just a wonderful person. I bow to her, period!

About my personal life:

There is almost no time left for her...
