How to draw fashionable clothes. How fashion designers draw

Not a single modern clothing designer can do without a sketch. Model drawings are the embodiment of the thoughts of a couturier who sets new trends in fashion.

Not every fashion designer can create a masterpiece right away. To bring an idea to life, it will require careful elaboration. And in this case - drawing.

In this master class we draw a fashion sketch from the very beginning.

So, armed with several sheets of paper, simple pencils of different hardnesses, an eraser, a black gel pen and colored pencils or paints (preferably watercolors), we will create our own fashionable image.

For the initial stage we will need a soft pencil. On a piece of paper, mark the vertical axis on which the silhouette will “hold”. For greater convenience, divide this axis into equal parts, the height of which is commensurate with the size of the head: for a male figure 8-9 parts, for a female figure - 7-8, and for a child's figure - 5-6 parts.

To make the model sketch look more impressive, you can lengthen the legs, so we’ll add 1-2 more parts.

Having marked the central axis with light strokes, you can begin to create a fore-sketch or pre-sketch (Fig. 1).

Let's draw the head, schematically designate the arms, legs, shoulder girdle, chest line, waist and hips. We denote the joints with circles.

The drawing does not look very “appetizing”, but at the next stage we will add volume to our girl. This work will require more careful drawing (Fig. 2).

Having carefully sketched the main lines, we check the symmetry of the figure. In this case, it is advisable to make the hairstyle universal, because this blank may be needed in the future if you want to draw something else. But you shouldn’t get carried away with drawing the face: let’s focus on the clothes.

Now we need a black gel pen and a soft eraser. Carefully outline the girl’s figure and let the ink dry.

By removing all the extra lines (Fig. 3), we get a finished sketch of the figure.

In order not to spoil the work done, carefully transfer the sketch onto a clean sheet of paper using a soft pencil.

The next step is sketching the clothes. Here you will need knowledge of the latest trends in the fashion industry. And if you haven't decided on a look yet, look through fashion magazines for inspiration.

With light strokes we draw the contours of the future clothes on the figure (Fig. 4).

We carefully draw the details of our image (Fig. 5).

Let's outline the contours with a gel pen and remove unnecessary lines (Fig. 6).

Our sketch is almost ready. It remains to remove the auxiliary lines of the figure of our girl model (Fig. 7).

So, we have a finished sketch of the model. All the main work is done. Now we begin to draw up a technical sketch, on which all the structural elements will be visible - pockets, seams, trim, decor, etc. (Fig. 8).

How are ideas for new models born? It's different for everyone. Some are inspired by their favorite films, others by glossy magazines, others by the colors of nature. But no matter what inspires fashion designers, all their ideas that are born in the creative process find their expression in artistic sketches of new models.

This is natural, because in order to begin the process of pattern modeling, you need to think through each new model down to the smallest detail - silhouette, design solution, color and texture of fabric, finishing - everything affects how the finished product will look. At the stage of creating an artistic sketch, you can make any changes to the product, experiment with color, length, show your imagination, give freedom to creativity, imagination and create a real masterpiece!

Advice! Keep a separate album for your artistic sketches and sketch all new ideas in it.

Keep a separate album for your artistic sketches and sketch all new ideas in it. Even if some of them do not find immediate implementation, none of the sketches should be thrown away, because they may be useful to you in the future. When adding new models to the album, sometimes return to previous, unrealized ideas. Perhaps, after some time has passed, you will look at them in a new way and bring them to life.
And now a few words about what an artistic sketch should be.

What is an artistic sketch of a model?

You can first do a rough sketch or rough sketch to get your idea down on paper. It may be unclear, disproportionate, and lacking precise drawings. These are the germs of an idea, the initial stage when you can depict a flight of fancy as you consider necessary, understandable only to you. Experiment at this stage without limiting yourself in anything.

Rice. 1. Fore-sketch of a dress

This is followed by the creation of an artistic sketch of the model.
An artistic sketch of a model is a drawing made using any drawing technique. You can use gouache, watercolor, colored or single-color pencils, felt-tip pens and whatever is at hand for drawing. An artistic sketch is performed on a figure in an arbitrary pose. The main thing is that the model you draw conveys the mood, matches the image you have in mind, is aesthetically pleasing and comfortable to wear. All this needs to be thought through at the stage of creating an artistic sketch.

Rice. 2. Artistic sketch of the model - watercolor, ink

Rice. 3. Artistic sketch of the model - graphics

After completing the artistic sketch, it must be converted into a technical sketch, according to which it will be necessary to model the patterns.

Technical sketch of the model

A technical sketch of a model is a drawing of a product on a conditionally standard figure, with a clear definition of all the design features of the model, using a grid of base lines - the base of the neck, chest, waist, hips, central axis. This will allow you to more accurately calculate the location of structural seams, parts, pockets, etc.

Rice. 4. Technical sketch of the model - front and back

Make yourself a rule: always accompany a technical sketch of a model with a detailed description and calculation of the required amount of fabrics and applied materials for sewing it. This will greatly simplify your work and allow you to more accurately estimate the cost of the finished product, make it possible to optimize the modeling and cutting process and obtain a more accurate result. But this is exactly what we strive for!

In the description of the technical drawing of the product, be sure to indicate the following parameters:

1. Brief description of the product in free form.
2. Silhouette, product design features, size.
3. Calculation and description of the required amount of fabric for the product.
4. Description and calculation of the required amount of additional materials for the product (gaskets, fittings, threads, etc.).
5. Features of the model.

Rice. 5. Description of the technical drawing

If artistic sketches, as mentioned above, are best sketched on landscape paper, a squared notebook is ideal for technical drawing. In it you can easily enter a technical sketch and fill out a table describing the model.
Once you have done all the preparatory work and created a technical drawing, it will be much easier for you to create a basic pattern for the product and develop patterns.

Ready-made templates for your sketches

Rice. Art sketch template

And now - the fun part! We have prepared for you a template with silhouettes of female figures for artistic sketches on A4 format. Just download the pdf file, print it on a black and white printer and draw your sketches directly from the silhouettes.

This way you won’t have to waste time drawing the figures - after all, we’ve already drawn them for you! By the way, it is very convenient to store finished sketches in a folder.

Unlimited creativity to you!

Children love to draw their mothers, sisters of other children and therefore in this lesson we will figure out how to easily draw a dress step by step for children. It may seem that dresses are drawn using a very complex technique, but this is if you look at the drawings of professionals. In this case, a lot is taken into account, folds, light and shade, the human figure and other things that the child does not need to know. Well, let's start drawing :)

Let's start with the simplest version of drawing a dress, below we will present the drawing, and even lower you will see a description of the stages of drawing.

Stage 1

To begin with, we outline the figure of our future dress: a skirt in the shape of a triangle and a blouse similar to the figure of an uneven rectangle.

Stage 2

After the base of the dress is outlined, we begin to detail: draw two circles along the edges of our rectangle - these will be the sleeves, draw waves from below - these will be the folds of the dress.

Stage 3

We continue to detail, draw folds with regular lines, draw a collar, a strap, shape the sleeves and draw folds on them.

Stage 4

Erase all the auxiliary lines that you drew with a pencil.

Stage 5

We draw the arms, leg and don’t forget about the head. The drawing is ready and, if desired, you can color it with colored pencils, paints or felt-tip pens.

The second way to draw a dress

The second method is a little more complicated, but you can definitely do it :)

Stage 1
We begin to sketch out the base with a pencil. We draw the lower part in the form of a triangle, and the upper one similar to a rectangle, pay attention to the bends between the figures, this is our future waist.

Stage 2
At the second stage, you need to divide the upper part into three vertical stripes - these are the folds of the dress.

Stage 3
We detail our dress, in some places we give it a crumpled shape, and on the left we need to erase it a little, because later there will be a bow there.

Stage 4
Using a pencil, draw a bow and a belt. So, is the dress starting to look like a dress? :)

Stage 5
Now we draw the tails of the bow and draw folds throughout the dress.

Usually this is a female representative with a particularly rich inner world and the same outlook on life. Their habitat is podiums, photo shoots, parties, meetings of the upper echelons of society. In this lesson we will learn how to draw a model with a pencil. Not even just a model, but a supermodel named Bündchen Gisele. Reliable sources write that she is on the list of the most desirable women on our planet. And Giselle (what’s your first name?) was included in the Guinness Book of Records as the richest supermodel in the world. All this leads to the formation of a large number of male fans, and on the contrary, great hatred and envy of the fair sex. There is something to do.

However, despite the general hatred towards representatives of this ancient profession, deep down every girl dreams of having a model appearance and becoming the cover of a magazine (at least Murzilka).

Do you want to become a model? Here's what you need for this:

  • Change all protruding organs to ones plastically modeled to meet current standards of beauty;
  • Pull the skin over the back of the head (cut off excess);
  • Going to all the parties and get-togethers will turn into a glamorous pussy;
  • Meet daddy there;
  • ?????
  • PROFIT!

In the meantime, we will take up our pencils.

How to draw a model with a pencil step by step

Step one. Let's sketch out the girl's body. Step two. Let's draw the elements of the face: nose, eyes, mouth. Let's fix your hair, arm and clothes. Step three. Let's erase the extra lines and add shadows using shading. Ready. We have drawing lessons of other famous personalities, take a look.

This lesson will teach you the basics of building proportional slim figure for fahion sketches. It contains basic knowledge that will serve as a basis for other lessons that feature models in various poses. Basically, we will deal with the torso itself and the legs. I'll show you how to draw model figures 8, 9 and 10 heads high. If you want to learn how to draw a head and face, check out this one.

First of all, a model sketch is not part of realism. Of course, model sketches are similar to ordinary people, since in most cases they serve to show clothing on real human figures. However, the proportions of the sketches are far from the actual proportions of the body. So a comment like “Real women don’t look like this” addressed to a fahion sketch is comparable to the comment “This is an unreal world” addressed to the paintings of Salvador Dali. A fashion sketch is an ABSTRACTION.

Before developing your own style of drawing fahion illustrations, you can practice by working with the "standard" body proportions that most fashion illustrators use. So let's get to work!

Drawing a girl's figure for a fashion sketch

Look at the image below. These three figures have different proportions and give different impressions. The first figure is really elongated and looks implausible. The third sketch looks the most natural. However, all three figures are constructed in the same way.

As a rule, we draw a head measuring 2.5 X 1.5 cm. I'm going to use these numbers in this example. So, the length of the head is 2.5 cm (in the third example it is 2.2 cm). In all three examples, the length of the torso (from the chin to the bikini line) is equivalent to the height of three heads, that is:

Head length x 3 + 1 cm = body length

2.5 x 3 + 1 = 8.5 cm

  1. HEAD

  1. NECK AND SHOULDERS

Step 1. Count 1 or 1.5 cm from the chin and find the neckline, the gap between the neck and collarbones. Draw two lines.

Step 2. Draw two vertical lines for the neck (width depends on body type - thin or athletic) and two horizontal lines for the shoulders (shoulder width = 4 cm).

Step 3. Use curved lines to outline the contours of the body.

  1. BREAST

Step 1: Define your armpits. There should be enough space to fit a small circle between the corner of the shoulder blade and the hollow of the armpit.

Step 2. Count 1 cm down from the neckline. We begin to draw the lower contour of the chest. To me it looks like a tent️⛺. But this is only one type of breast, of course, and shapes and sizes vary. The outer contour looks like the letter S.

  1. WAIST AND HIPS

According to our calculations, the length of the body from the chin to the hips is 8.5 cm. The width of the hips is equal to the width of the shoulders.

To draw an hourglass body shape, draw two intersecting diagonal lines connecting the shoulder point to the opposite hip point. In this way we outline the shape of the body, as shown in the image.

Well, let's go back to the image with the three figures and heads. As you can see, the leg lengths for all three models are 6, 5 and 4 heads respectively. All you have to do is calculate:

Head length x N = leg length

Figure 1: 2.5 x 6 = 15 cm

Figure 2: 2.5 x 5 = 12.5 cm

Figure 3: 2.5 x 4 = 10 cm

If you divide this length by 2, you get the knees. In our case it is 15 cm/2= 7.5 cm.

Step 1. Calculate 7.5 cm down from the crotch and find the knees. You need to draw them as two closely spaced circles. Draw the inner outline of the knees as shown below (in green).

Step 2. On both sides of the crotch, a little higher, draw two circles. Connect them to your knees.

Step 3. To draw the inner thigh muscles, draw one circle below the crotch and another circle above the knees (labeled 3 and 3′ in the picture).

Step 4. Draw the outline of the hips as shown below.

Step 5: To find your ankle, count 7.5cm down from the point of your knee. You can mark them with smaller circles. Their location should be slightly closer to each other than at the knees.

Step 6. Draw the outline of the calves. Notice the shape of the muscles shown above.

  1. FEET

By “leg length,” we mean the total length from the ankle to the tip of the big toe.

HEAD LENGTH = FOOT LENGTH

2.5 cm = 2.5 cm

Step 1: Remember that the inner ankle bone is higher than the outer bone.

Step 2. Draw the inner outline of the foot. It is more pronounced than the external one. In this example we are drawing legs wearing high heels. Length 3/4 of head length.

Step 3. Draw the outer outline of the foot.

Step 4. Depending on the shape of the toe of the shoe, draw the legs.

Use a template for fashion sketches

You can download the template for all three types of shapes and use it for your projects and as a basis for future fahion illustration tutorials.

Video instructions

This video tutorial is devoted to drawing a figure of 8 heads. However, here I take a different approach. Take a look, you might find it more convenient.
