People buried at the Novodevichy cemetery. Novodevichy Cemetery - Peace of the Great (55 photos)

The Vagankovskoye cemetery is one of the largest and most famous necropolises in Moscow. This memorial complex covers an area of 50 hectares of land. Its location is the northwestern part of the capital.

The Vagankovo cemetery in Moscow has become one of the monuments of history and culture.

Necropolis - the last refuge

In the capital of our country there are three cemeteries where it is customary to bury folk idols: Novodevichy, Vagankovskoye, and Kuntsevo cemetery.

The first is the most prestigious, people who officially made history are buried here. The Vagankovskoye cemetery is a kind of alternative, those who “did not reach” Novodevichy for some reason are buried here, mostly public figures, surrounded by people's love, rumor and glory. Surprisingly, the word "vagant" is translated as "wandering artists", thus, the necropolis seems to tell in advance about the kind of activity of those who found their last shelter here.

History of occurrence

The Vagankovo cemetery was founded in 1771 by order of Count Grigory Orlov. Catherine II personally sent him to Moscow to prevent the consequences of the plague.

The formation of a new burial place was a necessary measure due to the many deaths from a terrible disease. Land in the old cemeteries was sorely lacking.

Over the next years (until the middle of the 19th century) this place was the last refuge of peasants, petty officials, ordinary residents of Moscow.

The Vagankovskoye cemetery in Moscow gained its popularity after the burial of the dead soldiers of the Russian army in 1812 in the battle of Borodino. After that, the graves of people who wrote their names in history began to appear here: politicians, writers, poets, scientists, military personnel, actors and others.

By the end of the 20th century, the Vagankovo churchyards had become well-known and prestigious places for burial.

Today, there are no places for new graves in the necropolis, however, related burials and burials of urns are allowed (in closed, open columbariums and in the ground).

Sightseeing tours are held here once a week. People visiting the Vagankovskoye cemetery take photos here quite often, taking pictures of the graves of idols.

Temple

At the entrance to the territory of the necropolis there is a complex of buildings: on the one hand, the church, on the other - administrative premises.

In 1772 a small wooden church named after John the Merciful was erected. Instead, in 1824, a stone Church of the Resurrection of the Word was built; A. Grigoriev became its architect. Funds for the construction were provided by Moscow merchants. Historical bells have been preserved in the Temple to this day.

In memory of the old church, a rotunda chapel was built, which is still there today.

The doors of the Temple were always open, even in Soviet times.

Mass graves at the Vagankovsky cemetery

The tragic moments of our history can be traced through local burials.

Here are the mass graves of the soldiers of the battle of Borodino, the burials of those who died during the stampede on the Khodynka field.

On the territory of the famous necropolis are:

  • a memorial dedicated to the victims of Stalin's repressions;
  • the mass grave of the defenders of Moscow who died in 1941-1942;
  • monuments to those who died during the 1991 coup, the defenders of the White House and child actors who were victims of a terrorist attack in 2002 during the musical Nord-Ost.

Vagankovsky cemetery: graves of celebrities (photo)

Not all people come to the Moscow necropolis to visit the burials of their deceased relatives. Most visitors are looking for the burial places of famous people, for whom the Vagankovskoye cemetery has become the last refuge.

Photos of celebrities, forever immortalized in stone, have always attracted the eye. For some, this is comparable to going to a historical museum. On the territory of the Moscow necropolis there is a map that will help you navigate the terrain.

One of the most popular graves is the grave of Archpriest Valentin Amfiteatrov. It is considered miraculous, many pilgrims come here every day and pray at the cross on the grave. In the 20th century, they tried to destroy it twice, the first time they could not find it, the second time no remains were found.

Thus, the Vagankovsky cemetery keeps its “quiet residents”. Not everyone dares to take a photo of this grave, fearing to disturb the rest of the archpriest.

The starting point for visiting the most famous burials is the columbarium. Already from the entrance, along the alley, there are burials of athletes, actors, musicians, and poets in chains.

Following the directions of the map, you can easily find the most visited graves - the poet Sergei Yesenin, the poet and actor Vladimir Vysotsky. Many legends about them are kept by the Vagankovsky cemetery.

At the burial site of Yesenin, according to rumors, they see the ghost of a girl. A year after his death, G. Benislavskaya committed suicide at the poet's grave. In total, 12 people said goodbye to their lives here.

Vladimir Vysotsky rests in someone else's grave. Contrary to the order of the authorities to bury the poet and actor in the far corner, the director of the Vagankovsky cemetery gave other instructions, allocating a place at the entrance. Earlier, relatives of one of the deceased removed the remains from the artist's burial place for reburial, after which the grave was vacated. There is an opinion that those who visited his monument are inspired in creativity.

The Vagankovskoye cemetery stores the graves of celebrities and famous artists such as A. K. Savrasov, V. A. Tropinin, V. I. Surikov.

Tombstones of folk idols of the late 20th and early 21st century

Many monuments amaze with their architectural design. You can see the majestic statues of the deceased themselves in full growth, such as, for example, by Leonid Filatov.

For others, the tombstones are made in the Slavic style, for example, for Igor Talkov - a large cross was built in memory of him, and his photo is located in the headboard under a wooden canopy. This is one of the few graves with fresh flowers all year round.

Guides say that one girl wanted to bury herself alive next to a famous singer on her own, but she was not completely covered with earth, and the young woman was saved.

Many similar stories are kept by the Vagankovsky cemetery. The graves of celebrities, photos of which are presented in this article, like magnets attract living people.

You can always meet someone at the graves of Andrei Mironov and Vlad Listyev. The first one has a monument in the form of wings, and a bronze angel-girl with one broken wing is crying over the grave of a well-known journalist and presenter.

Actor Mikhail Pugovkin's unusual tombstone is like a film reel containing frames from films in which he played.

Alexander Abdulov, who died of a serious illness in 2008, has a white monument in the spirit of constructivism, in the form of a rock with a large cross, a photograph of the actor and three-dimensional letters with his name.

Many athletes are also buried here: the Znamensky brothers, Inga Artamonova, Lyudmila Pakhomova, Lev Yashin, Stanislav Zhuk and others.

Monuments of "ordinary" people

"Vagankovskoye cemetery" - "graves of celebrities", for some, these phrases have long become synonymous. However, when you walk along the narrow alleys of the necropolis, tombstones and “mere mortals” catch your eye, whose close people tried to decorate the burial place in an unusual way.

It is impossible to pass by some of the tombstones, they are so striking in their architecture. So, a golden angel was erected on the grave of the daughter of the artist A. Shilov.

Here you can see family crypts, moments of life literally carved out of stone, and sculptural sketches. There are graves with simple crosses or monuments erected almost 200 years ago.

Vandals and other horror stories

Unfortunately, not all people treat cemeteries with respect, and vandals often appear here. Most often they steal precious metals. So, an easel disappeared from the grave of the artist N. Romadin, and copper strings were stolen from the harpist M. Gorelova, and the fence disappeared from A. Mironov. However, photos of idols most often disappear.

Not far from the entrance to the Vagankovskoye cemetery there is a statue of a woman without a head - this is a monument erected by Sonya the Golden Handle. Its pedestal contains many handwritten inscriptions. She lost her head by accident - drunken vandals climbed to kiss the monument and accidentally broke it.

There is an opinion that it is impossible to bury on the territory of the Moscow necropolis, since here the holy cemetery ground was desecrated by the blood of suicides, and murders took place here. Also, many criminal authorities are buried here.

On the grave of A. Abdulov, they often see a glow and feel the warmth coming from somewhere below. Against this background, the photo of the actor seems alive.

There is another strange burial - A. Tenkova. Those who linger near it may fall into a trance, after which they suddenly find themselves near another grave.

When telling interlocutors about visiting a cemetery as a sight, you very often see surprise and wariness in the eyes. How, instead of magnificent estates, museums and art galleries, did you wander among the graves and admire the beauty, decoration, admire the sculptural compositions?!

Indeed, it does not look like a standard monument of architecture and art, but there is so much to see and learn from the famous cemeteries! Almost every big city has its own famous burial grounds, where tourists flock and where guided tours are held. And there are plenty of people who want to!

Novodevichy cemetery

We offer you to take a walk through the two most famous and significant cemeteries in Moscow - Novodevichy and Vagankovsky. The great minds of our fatherland, heroes of the Great Patriotic War, statesmen, writers, poets, composers, actors, directors, singers, athletes rest on their territories - all these people left an eternal mark on Russian and world history. Our famous sculptors, artists and architects worked on a large number of monuments: M. Anikushin, E. Vuchetich, S. Konenkov, V. Mukhina, N. Tomsky, G. Schultz, many of them also found their last refuge in these cemeteries. Some tombstones keep amazing stories, secrets and assumptions that have remained undisclosed (we recommend reading the versions about the reburial of N.V. Gogol, and also find out where the stone was taken from the grave of M.A. Bulgakov. - Approx. Ed.).

Cemetery Vagankovsky

Despite the cold and rainy summer, we managed to take advantage of a few sunny days and capture our walk in photographs. Although it is worth noting that the cloudy and gloomy sky gives mystery and mysticism, which, of course, changes the overall mood and impression of the place. It all depends on the visitor, on what emotions you want to receive in a certain life period. There is something to think about here, and the silence and the feeling that time has stopped around help clarify thoughts and distract from everyday worries.

Novodevichy cemetery

Novodevichy Cemetery is considered the main Moscow necropolis. In Soviet times, it became the second most important burial place after the Kremlin wall. The cemetery is located in the southwestern part of the city, in Khamovniki, on the territory adjacent to the Novodevichy Convent (Sportivnaya metro station).

The first burials appeared in the 17th century on the territory of the Novodevichy Convent. By the 20th century, there was practically no free space left, and then land was allocated outside the southern wall of the monastery. The official opening date of this part is 1904. At the moment, the cemetery occupies more than 7.5 hectares, consists of 4 territories, where 26,000 people are buried.

The territory of the Novodevichy Convent is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and is one of the most beautiful burial places in the world, deservedly included in the top 10.

The Vagankovo cemetery is one of the three most famous necropolises in Moscow. More than 500,000 people, residents of the capital, found their last refuge on its territory. The Vagankovsky cemetery is especially famous for the graves of celebrities. Famous artists, theater and film actors, athletes and other famous residents of the Moscow metropolis rest on it.

History of creation

The Moscow necropolis, whose celebrity graves are visited daily by more than 1,000 people, has more than 250 years of history. Officially, the first records about the cemetery near the village of Vagankovo appeared back in 1771: it was here, by order of Count Orlov, that the inhabitants of the capital and its environs who died from the plague began to be buried. However, on its territory there are burials dated 1696.

Currently, the Vagankovskoye cemetery or Vaganka covers an area of 50 hectares and is located in the north-west of Moscow. It belongs to the Presnensky district of the capital. Despite the fact that there are burial places of more than 500,000 Muscovites, today only 1/5 of the total territory is in a normal state.

The necropolis of our time is divided into 60 parts by paths, and each section has its own name. For example, the most popular are:

  • Central;
  • Lime;
  • Yeseninskaya;
  • Writer's and others.

The Vagankovsky necropolis is not only a burial place for famous people. On its territory there are more than 259 objects of the country's architectural cultural heritage.

It is known that famous sculptors, architects and other creative personalities made tombstones for the burial places of celebrities. Since the cemetery is located on a vast territory, and it is easy to get lost in it, there is a map of Vaganka.

Burials of dead people

The necropolis and columbarium are now a privileged resting place. Only those residents of the capital who have made a significant contribution to the development of the city and the country as a whole are buried here. It is known that the following were previously buried on the territory of Vaganka:

Popular places for visitors

In peacetime, celebrities from various industries are buried on Vaganka. Reliable information about the Vagankovsky cemetery, a list of burials, a full range of sights can be found on the official website of the necropolis.

Among the tombstones of famous personalities, the most visited are the graves of:

  • Sergei Yesenin;
  • Igor Talkov;
  • Vladimir Vysotsky;
  • Vitaly Solomin;
  • George Vitsin;
  • Andrey Mironov;
  • Alexandra Abdulova;
  • Vlad Listeva;
  • Sonya "Golden Pen";
  • Jap.

Guided tours often visit the grave of the famous Russian poet Sergei Yesenin. A bright representative of the Silver Age lived an interesting life, on his grave there is an interesting stone composition, in the center of which the great poet is carved to the waist. At the burial site there are always people, many flowers. Yeseninskaya alley leads to the poet's grave, the sign of which can be found near the church.

Resting on the Vagankovsky necropolis since 1991 famous performer of his own songs, bard Igor Talkov. It was the bard who called himself the idol of millions in his own work "Monologue" in no other way. On the grave of Igor Talkov there is a large dark cross surrounded by armfuls of fresh flowers. His burial is located next to the grave of the famous Dynamo goalkeeper Lev Yashin.

The place where Vysotsky is buried, located after the entrance to the necropolis on the right. The grave of the famous artist Vladimir Vysotsky is impossible not to notice. He has been resting at the Vagankovsky cemetery since 1980, and after 5 years a bronze monument appeared there. The bard-songwriter is depicted in full growth, and the composition itself is made of gilded bronze by the hand of the sculptor Alexander Rukavishnikov.

Resting in the north-west of Moscow and the famous Soviet actor Vitaly Solomin. The year of the burial of the great performer of the role of Dr. Watson is 2002. The funeral ensemble consists of a black cross in the form of Mount Golgotha and an Orthodox cross. At the base there is a portrait of the actor himself and the years of his life are indicated.

Found the last refuge at the Vagankovsky necropolis in 2001 and a member of the immortal trinity of anti-heroes Coward, Georgy Vitsin. A modest white stele is installed on the grave, on which the name and years of the actor's life are written. He was a modest man during his lifetime, and, as many note, the burial place fully corresponds to him. One of the main characters of Leonid Gaidai's film stories can be visited at site number 25. In order to find the right burial, there is a district guide.

The conqueror of women's hearts is an artist of the Soviet theater and cinema Andrey Mironov is buried on Vaganka. A bright favorite of many has been resting on the territory of the necropolis since 1987. Previously, a modest plaque and a photograph of the actor stood on his grave, but now there is an elaborate black marble monument. You can pay tribute to the memory of your favorite artist at polling station No. 40.

Actor passed away ten years ago Alexander Abdulov. His grave is also located at the Vagankovsky cemetery. Initially, a cross was erected at the burial site, but a year later it was replaced with a full-fledged monument made of white-gray granite. It contains a photograph of the audience's favorite, where he is depicted playing the role of Lancelot from the movie "Kill the Dragon". Sculptor Vladimir Matyukhin, who worked on the project, put his soul into the monument.

The well-known journalist and fighter for the truth on the post-Soviet screens, Vlad Listyev, also found peace in the Vagankovsky necropolis. He passed away in 1995. At polling station No. 1, a bronze angel mourns over the untimely deceased first director of ORT.

Unusual personalities

Located in the famous Moscow cemetery and the graves of those people who lived on the other side of the law.

A striking example of this is the grave of Sonya Golden handle. You can get to the burial place of the legendary thief and swindler by walking along the Shchurovsky path in just five steps. It is impossible to pass by her grave, as an unusual monument immediately catches your eye; a woman made of marble without arms and head.

It is known that the burial place of Sonya the Golden Handle (in the world of Sofya Ivanovna Bluvshtein) is empty, but this does not prevent many people from coming to him who want to get rich. The tomb of the swindler, according to many, has magical powers, and people who are dishonest often come to her in the early morning or late evening for help.

The well-known criminal authority Vyacheslav Ivankov, nicknamed Yaponchik, also found his peace in the necropolis. The leader and "godfather" of the Moscow crime family died in 2009. On his grave stands an impressive monument of black marble. In the center of the composition, you can see Yaponchik himself, sitting on a stool, there is a lattice to the right of him, and a cross to the left.

Unusual in the monument is that in the left hand of the “godfather” of the capital there is a glass of alcohol, and under the shoe of the left foot lies a fake banknote worth 500 rubles.

There are also several churches and chapels on the territory of the cemetery. A lot of people also come to the temple of the Apostle Andrew the First-Called and the Church of the Resurrection, both pilgrims visiting holy places and ordinary travelers from various countries.

Opening hours and guide

Tourists can get to the Moscow necropolis in several ways:

  • metro;
  • public land transport;
  • private ground transport.

Since the necropolis is located in the north-west of the capital, the question of where the Vagankovskoye cemetery is, how to get there by metro, is very common. It is known that in the Moscow metropolis the metro is the fastest and most convenient transport, and for those who relatively quickly navigate its maps, it will be very easy to figure it out. To do this, it is recommended to take the train to the station "Ulitsa 1905 year" and, having exited on it, go towards the center. Coming out of the subway, it is worth looking for December Street, it is she who will lead to the famous cemetery.

For those travelers who for some reason prefer public land transport, you should pay attention to buses number 6, 69 and 152, which will definitely take the tourist to the nearest destination. Trolleybuses No. 5k, which means “ring” and No. 35, also go to the necropolis on Dekabrskaya Street.

Travelers on their own vehicles can set the coordinates of the Vagankovskoye cemetery into the navigation system, the address how to get there - everything will be displayed on their screen. For those who do not have a modern satellite system, there is an address where the necropolis is located: Sergey Makeev Street, 15. The ability to use a paper map-plan and the desire to visit a local attraction will certainly help to achieve the goal.

The working hours of the resting place of the stars, the time and hours of visiting depend on the season of the year. From May 1 to September 30, the necropolis accepts travelers from 9 am to 7 pm. In the cold season from October 1 to April 30, the gates of Vaganka are open from 9 am to 5 pm.

On weekdays, the cemetery is experiencing a large influx of tourists, so these days the selection of places for burial, except in emergency cases, is not conducted. A place in a prestigious necropolis is very expensive, not counting the installation of a monument or the erection of a crypt. Only well-known personalities, residents of Moscow and their relatives (if this is a subburial), have the honor of being buried in the cemetery, and people will rest under one tombstone.

There is a group of volunteers in the capital who searches for the forgotten graves of celebrities and restores and puts them in order at their own expense. Activists maintain a blog called "Celebrity Graves in Russian Cemeteries", photos from which can be found there. There are also indications of the grave of which famous person and when it was discovered and restored by them.

The Moscow Novodevichy Cemetery is known far beyond the capital. The remains of great figures of science, culture and art, prominent politicians are buried in this shelter for the dead.

The territory of the cemetery is huge - as much as 7 and a half hectares. She continues to grow. And it all started with a modest burial at, founded in the 16th century. Prince Vasily III. At first, the deceased nuns of the monastery were buried here. The monastery gave its name to the cemetery. The name of the most holy place came, according to legend, from the Maiden's field, on which the Tatars in ancient times selected Russian beauties for themselves.

Before the October Revolution and a decade after it, nuns and ordinary Muscovites were buried at Novodevichy. It became privileged in the late 1920s. of the last century, when the country's government decided that only people who held a prominent social position would rest here. Writers V. Mayakovsky, V. Bryusov, A. Chekhov, A. Tvardovsky, B. Akhmadullina, V. Shukshin and many others found eternal rest on this land; politicians - V. Chernomyrdin, A. Gromyko, B. Yeltsin, wife of M. Gorbachev Raisa Maksimovna; artists - I. Levitan, V. Serov; actors and directors - S. Bondarchuk, E. Evstigneev. There is a special "Mkhatovskaya alley" at the cemetery.

The territory of the place of eternal rest of prominent people of Russia is divided into Old, New and Newest cemeteries. There is a special bureau where you can book an excursion. The "Cemetery Guide" will show the most famous graves, tell you about interesting facts related to the life and death of our wonderful compatriots.

So, during the tour, you can find out that Vasily Shukshin was buried in a "privileged" cemetery against the will of his mother, who wanted the body to be delivered to her son's homeland - to Siberia.

A curious and rather unexpected story about Stalin's wife Nadezhda Alliluyeva. It turns out that the unbending "leader of the peoples", who at the coffin of his wife accused her of betrayal (Nadezhda committed suicide for unknown reasons), often came here secretly at night and was sad at her grave.

The most mysterious story of Novodevichy is connected with the name of Gogol. When his grave was opened, it was found that the coffin was damaged on the inside, and the head of the corpse was missing. They say that the great writer was not in vain afraid that he would be buried alive ... Scientists have been refuting these legends and conjectures for more than a decade, but they are still alive among the people.

The Novodevichy Cemetery became famous thanks to its architectural monuments. Many tombstones are real works of art, creations of brilliant sculptors. This last refuge of many famous people of Russia is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Silence and peace reign here everywhere. In this land lie those who made our history, whose names are written in school textbooks. No matter how we treat them, their memory is worthy of our respect. Peace and rest to their ashes...
