Golden Mask announced the winners. Laureates of the Golden Mask Award Announced Special Prizes of the Jury of the Musical Theater

This year, a record number of performances of all genres claimed it. The final list of nominees included performances by theaters from different cities of Russia: 28 drama performances, 13 operas, 5 ballets and 9 contemporary dance performances, 4 operetta/musical performances, and 8 puppet performances.

Danila Kozlovsky was recognized as the best dramatic actor for the role of Hamlet in the Maly Drama Theater of St. Petersburg. Actress Yevgenia Simonova also received recognition, playing Sophia Tolstaya in the play "Russian Romance" at the Mayakovsky Theater. The same performance received the third "Mask" as the best performance of a large form, and in the "Small form" section, the performance "Magadan / Cabaret" of the Moscow theater "Near the Stanislavsky House" was noted.

Andrey Moguchiy became the best director in a drama, as in the previous year - he received an award for the play "Thunderstorm" at the Tovstonogov Bolshoi Drama Theater. The prize for the best female supporting role in a drama went to Elena Nemzer from the Alexandrinsky Theater for the role of Pantaloon in the production of The Raven, and for the best male role - to Holger Münzenmayer (The Deacon in the play Once Upon a Time by the Sharypovo Drama Theater).

The best performance in the operetta-musical was "The Binduzhnik and the King" of the Krasnoyarsk Theater for Young Spectators, Roman Feodori was awarded as the best director for this performance. Maria Biork, who played Sonya in the play "Crime and Punishment" (Musical Theater), received the award for the best female role in a musical operetta.

The award for the best male role in this category went to Viktor Krivonos for his role in the play “White. Petersburg" (Musical Comedy Theatre, St. Petersburg). The best supporting role in the operetta-musical was played by Vladimir Galchenko from the Drama Theater in Samara.

Romeo and Juliet, staged at the Yekaterinburg Opera and Ballet Theatre, was recognized as the best ballet performance. Igor Bulytsyn, who danced in the play Mercutio, received the award for the best male role. Pavel Klinichev became the best conductor - he was awarded the prize for his work "Ondine" to the music of Hans Werner Henze (Bolshoi Theater). Victoria Tereshkina played the best female role in the performance of the Mariinsky Theater Violin Concerto No. 2. For the same performance, Anton Pimonov was also awarded in the nomination "The best work of a choreographer/choreographer". The award in the nomination "Best Performance in Contemporary Dance" was given to the work "All Ways Lead to the North" (Moscow Ballet Theatre).

Teodor Currentzis won the Best Opera Conductor with a performance of La Traviata at the Tchaikovsky Opera and Ballet Theater in Perm. Richard Jones was recognized as the best director (opera Rodelinda, Bolshoi Theatre). The award in the nomination "Best performance in the opera" also went to "Rodelinda". Nadezhda Pavlova (Violetta in La Traviata by the Perm Opera) received the award for the best female role in the opera, and Liparit Avetisyan (Chevalier de Grieux in Manon at the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theater in Moscow) received the award for the best male role. Eduard Artemyev won the award in the nomination "The best work of a composer in a musical theater" for "Crime and Punishment" of the Moscow Musical Theatre.

In the "puppet" nominations, the performance "Hedgehog in the Fog" by the Moscow Puppet Theater, staged by Natalya Pakhomova, was recognized as the best work of the director, and "Kolino's composition" by the St. Petersburg center "CounterArt" was recognized as the best production.

At the end of the ceremony, the awards "For outstanding contribution to the development of theatrical art" were presented - they were received by

Two compositions of the jury - dramatic and musical - sat in parallel on the eve of the presentation. Moreover, the dramatic was able to start the final discussion only when the last performance of the mask marathon ended: by chance, it turned out to be a production from a very distant point in Russia - Norilsk. Polar Drama. Mayakovsky presented "Uncle Vanya". She was considered a real competitor to another "Uncle Vanya" - from Voronezh and a contender for the national award in at least one of the nominations. But ... both "Uncle Vanya" left Moscow with nothing.

How did ZM-2017 play the card this time? By the way, it can rightly be considered a record since its foundation - 1993. The Mask has 290 nominations, and this is no joke. For comparison - last year there were 200 of them, in previous years - even less. New ones have been added to the list of last year - “Dramaturg”, “the supporting role” is now divided into the best in the drama for men and women, and finally a supporting role in the operetta has appeared. The geography of participating theaters also expanded - six new cities brought their performances to Moscow.

Although there is no Grand Prix as such on the "Mask", nevertheless, behind the scenes, it is considered to be the one who has the award for the "Best Performance". So, among the performances of a large form in this nomination, the “Russian Novel” of the Moscow Theater. Mayakovsky (directed by Mindaugas Karbauskis). In general, the performance dedicated to the wife of Leo Tolstoy, who, by the way, never appears on stage in 3 hours of action, was awarded in three categories - "Best Performance", "Dramaturg" (Ivaskevicius) and "Best Actress". She goes to the beautiful actress Evgenia Simonova. But the “Best Male Role” was recognized as the role of Hamlet performed by Daniil Kozlovsky. I note that Lev Dodin's new play, Hamlet, caused heated debate and literally split the capital's audience exactly in half: and not just into "for" and "against", but radically - "beautiful" and "terrible". However, this is a masterful work that may be truly appreciated in time.

"Russian Romance" had quite strong competitors in the face of its main and, one might say, longtime rivals - the St. Petersburg Tovstonogov Theater and the Alexandrinsky Theater. The difference in votes during the voting was minimal. As a result, the BDT with the play "Thunderstorm" was awarded for the "Best Direction" by Andrey Moguchiy, which is absolutely fair. And Alexandrinka takes two “Masks” to St. Petersburg - “The Best Artist” (Nikolai Roshchin, the play “The Raven”) and a special prize for a highly professional ensemble cast in the play “On the Other Side of the Curtain” (small form, directed by Andriy Zholdak based on the play by Chekhov "Three sisters").

Moreover, the jury unanimously included an actress in the ensemble, who for some reason was not nominated. Thus, Igor Volkov (father, Vershinin), Vitaly Kovalenko (Kulygin) and Elena Vozhakina (Masha) are united in the ensemble. In a small form, the Three Sisters from Novosibirsk, staged by Timofey Kulyabin, playing a Chekhov play in the language of hearing-impaired people, received a special prize for the acting ensemble.

"Best Supporting Actor" leaves for the tiny town of Sharypovo (Krasnoyarsk Territory), where only 38 thousand inhabitants live. She is taken away by the oldest actor of the troupe, Holger Münzenmayer (play "Once Upon a Time".) And "Best Supporting Actress" goes to Elena Nemzer from Alexandrinka (play "The Raven").

There were no heated debates in "Dolls" - there was complete unanimity in the jury regarding "Kolya's work", the "KontArt" project and the "Puppet Format" theater from St. Petersburg. The story is subtle, incredibly touching, based on the book by Sergei Golyshev "My son is a down", which uses the verses of the author's son - Kolya Golyshev. No speculation on a painful topic - the work of director Yana Tumina deserves the highest praise. And besides, it turned out that she offered this project to one large theater, but he refused, and Yana collected money for the implementation of her project for four years. Not for nothing - "Kolino happiness" becomes the "Best Performance", and two actors playing in it (Anna Somkina and Alexander Balsanov) are recognized as the "Best". The work of the artist Viktor Antonov was awarded the "Mask" for the play "Iron" (theater from Petrozavodsk). Natalya Pakhomova from the Moscow Puppet Theater was recognized as the "Best Director of a Puppet Show" for the play "A Fairy Tale with Closed Eyes" Hedgehog in the Fog.

On April 19, 2017, the winners of the Golden Mask Award 2017 were announced in Moscow. We supplemented the official verdict of the jury with an unofficial vote and are ready to sum up the results.

In general, it was relatively easy to predict the official results of the next "Mask". Nevertheless, the results of the audience voting, from our point of view, could supplement the picture with interesting details.

Of course, we were only interested in nominations related to musical theater - there were 11 of them.

Voting started quite late, on the night of April 17, 2017, which, perhaps, was our mistake: it was worth starting the process a few days earlier so that everyone interested in the results of the Golden Mask would know about it. Then there would be more votes, and the results would be more legitimate. On the other hand, a late start made it possible not to make supernatural efforts to protect against cheating.

The results of this vote may be of some interest with one amendment: the Astrakhan Opera and Ballet Theater shared our publication on its VKontakte page, in connection with which almost all the first places in the opera nominations of our vote were given to Astrakhan. The only thing that can be regretted in this regard is that other theaters did not follow the example of Astrakhan: in this case, our vote would also turn out to be a competition for the number of subscribers in social networks.

In the nomination "Opera - performance" the first place in the audience vote was taken by the production of "The Condemnation of Faust" by the Astrakhan Theater, which received 701 votes, and the second - "The Maid of Orleans" by the Bashkir Theater (395 votes). "La Traviata" of the Perm Theatre, which many considered the favorite of the race, received only 289 votes from the audience.

But the jury of "The Mask" recognized the best performance in the opera "Rodelinda" from the Bolshoi Theater (which was transferred to the stage of the Bolshoi from the English National Opera). In the audience voting "Rodelinda" scored 54 votes, overtaking only other performances of the Bolshoi Theater - "The Condemnation of Faust" (46 votes) and "Katerina Izmailova" (44 votes).

Valery Voronin from Astrakhan was the first in the nomination “Opera – the work of a conductor” for the performance “The Condemnation of Faust” (530 votes), and the second was the official laureate of the “Golden Mask” Teodor Currentzis with 315 votes.

The audience considered Konstantin Balakin (Astrakhan, "The Condemnation of Faust") the best work of the director in the opera - 432 votes, the second was Robert Wilson (210 votes) for his performance "La Traviata". The official "Mask" in this nomination was given to Richard Jones for "Rodelinda" at the Bolshoi Theater, and Robert Wilson, unexpectedly for many, turned out to be the best lighting designer.

Probably, only this outcome of the current “Golden Mask” caused a revival in the discussions. Yulia Bederova, in an article about the results of the competition, described this moment as a “playful decision of the jury”, and Vadim Zhuravlev (a permanent author of the site and once a member of the Golden Mask jury) in his Facebook post simply called it a “slap in the face” to Robert Wilson.

Evgenia Afanasyeva from MAMT won the nomination "Opera - female role" for the role of Manon in Massenet's opera of the same name (383 votes). The official jury recognized Nadezhda Pavlova from the Perm Theater as the best for her role of La Traviata in Robert Wilson's performance. In the audience voting, Nadezhda Pavlova received 221 votes for this role.

Audience sympathy for the best male role in the opera was given to Valery Fomin (Young Gaaz, Doctor Gaaz, Helikon-Opera Theater - 120 votes). The real “Mask” in this nomination was received by Liparit Avetisyan for Chevalier de Grieux in the operetta “Manon” of the Musical Theater named after Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko. In the audience vote, this singer was in fourth place on the list with 78 votes.

The audience voted Romeo and Juliet from Yekaterinburg as the best ballet performance (366 votes), and the audience was in solidarity with the Golden Mask jury.

The best work of a conductor in ballet was the work of Pavel Klinichev on the play "Ondine" at the Bolshoi Theater. He was the only nominee this year, and the audience felt that his work in Yekaterinburg on "Romeo and Juliet" deserved the "Mask" more: Klinichev with "Romeo" received 204 audience votes, and Klinichev with "Ondine" - 41.

According to the audience, Vyacheslav Samodurov (Romeo and Juliet, Yekaterinburg – 248 votes) became the best choreographer, while the jury recognized the performance “Violin Concerto No. 2” by Anton Pimonov at the Mariinsky Theater as the best work of a ballet master/choreographer in ballet and modern dance. The audience voted for this production 25 times.

The audience considered Ekaterina Sapogova (Romeo and Juliet, Yekaterinburg - 214 votes) the best ballerina, and the jury - Victoria Tereshkina (Violin Concerto No. 2, Mariinsky Theater). The audience put Tereshkina in third place (48 votes).

The best dancer according to the audience was Igor Bulytsyn (Mercutio, Romeo and Juliet, Yekaterinburg - 759 votes), and this is the second time this year when the opinion of the audience coincided with the opinion of the Golden Mask jury.

Georgy Firtich was the first in the nomination “The work of a composer in a musical theater” (the performance “White. Petersburg - 84 votes”), but the jury recognized Eduard Artemiev as the first for his work on the play “Crime and Punishment” at the Moscow Musical Theater. Viewers voted for this work 66 times.

If the festival had not canceled the Press Prize this year, I would have expressed my opinion in the voting form. Now we have to do the same in a more extensive form. Dividing the text for ease of perception into five chapters. With a preface.

Behind the detailed scenery by Sergei Barkhin, who built the nostalgic barracks district, I somehow did not notice a special light pattern.

COMPETITION "EXPERIMENT"

"SNOW MAIDEN", theater "Old House", Novosibirsk

A beautiful performance about Russian paganism. But it’s a pity that Dmitry Volkostrelov’s series “How we didn’t get the Golden Mask” continued. Apparently, the music jury was active - in the nomination "Experiment" the decision of the drama and music jury is made jointly.

DRAMA/DIRECTOR'S WORK

Andrey MIGHTY, "Thunderstorm", BDT im. G.A. Tovstonogov, Saint Petersburg

Mighty - mighty; I understand that the pun is still fresh, but that's the way it is. A perfectionist director working on a Nietzschean scale. And welcome to cinemas !

DRAMA/FEMALE ROLE

Evgenia SIMONOVA, Sofia Tolstaya, "Russian novel", Theatre. Vl. Mayakovsky, Moscow

I didn't see the performance. We must see. The fact that Simonova is an excellent artist does not need to be explained to anyone. Maybe only to the youngest viewers who know about Soviet cinema only by hearsay.

DRAMA / MALE ROLE

Danila KOZLOVSKY, Hamlet, "Hamlet", Maly Drama Theater - Theater of Europe , St. Petersburg

DRAMA/SUPPORTING FEMALE

Elena NEMZER, Pantaloon, "Crow"

The leading actress of the Alexandrinsky Theatre, who has just recklessly played Mother Courage in Terzopoulos, is also organic in the unique world of Roshchin.

DRAMA/MASTER ROLE

Holger MUNZENMAIER, Deacon, "Lived once", Drama Theatre, Sharypovo

The artist is colorful. Perhaps this is how the jury decided to single out a very short sketch performance about death, which is not at all typical for a provincial theater. However, I could never understand the logic of the experts who determine the nominees in the acting "secondary" nomination.

DRAMA

Marius IVASHKEVICHUS, "Russian novel", Theatre. Vl. Mayakovsky, Moscow

The new nomination "Masks" brought victory to the venerable Lithuanian playwright. I didn’t find my own, which, in fact, I already had to say above.

SPECIAL PRIZES OF THE JURY OF THE DRAMA THEATER AND THE PUPPET THEATER

Ensemble of actors in a play "Three sisters", theater "Red Torch", Novosibirsk

Igor Volkov, Vitaly Kovalenko, Elena Vozhakina - actors in the play "Beyond the Curtain", Alexandrinsky Theatre, St. Petersburg

This is how the jury awarded two outstanding versions of The Three Sisters. Does this mean that the main awards will go to other performances? Yes, that's exactly what it means. And why did Kulyabin have all the actors, and Zholdak - only three? That's a blatant injustice.

DRAMA / LARGE FORM PERFORMANCE

"RUSSIAN ROMAN", Theatre. Vl. Mayakovsky, Moscow

It is interesting that, it seems, none of the critics predicted the victory of the Russian Novel. Now you really need to look. Why didn't you do it before? Because of, let's say, a cardinal discrepancy with the directorial temperament of Mindaugas Karbauskis. After "Kant" I decided that it was possible, probably, to stop with his performances. But the "Mask" does not allow.

DRAMA / SMALL FORM PERFORMANCE

"MAGADAN / CABARET", Theater "Near Stanislavsky's House", Moscow

More than fifty winners were awarded the Golden Masks in Moscow. The list of theater award nominees includes all types and genres of performing arts: ballet, musical, drama, puppet theater. To select the best, this season the experts watched almost a thousand performances staged in more than a hundred Russian cities.

It was the largest theatrical marathon in the history of the Golden Mask. For two and a half months, the audience saw 74 performances. The creators of the best of them became participants in the last and most unpredictable presentation of this festival - the award ceremony. By tradition, it takes place on the stage of the Musical Theater. Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko. In advance, only the names of the laureates in the nomination "For contribution to the development of theatrical art" were known. This year, among the winners are Vladimir Etush, Rezo Gabriadze and Oleg Tabakov. Hall met them standing.

“You know, for almost 60 years I have been on stage and have not said anything yet, and people are applauding. So I'm used to it, ”says Oleg Tabakov, People's Artist of the USSR.

For the first time in the history of The Mask, the nominee in the Ballet Conductor category did not have to worry either. The intrigue here was not who would be given the award, but for which performance. After all, all three nominations belong to one person, Pavel Klinichev. The jury recognized the ballet "Ondine" at the Bolshoi Theater as his best work.

“It's nice to go to the ceremony knowing that you'll get the Mask anyway,” the conductor said.

By the way, the Bolshoi is the absolute champion of this award. Six of his performances competed at once, and they were presented in 25 nominations. The result is three awards. In addition to Klinichev, the triumph was celebrated by Richard Jones, director of Handel's Rodelinda. She was also recognized as the best opera. But the conductor, artistic director of the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre, as expected, became the opera conductor of the year. Tchaikovsky Teodor Currentzis. He is called a musical genius. This is the sixth "Golden Mask" on his account - this time for "La Traviata".

“If you take some modern opera about which you have no idea what this opera is about, you go inside, you explore. And the operas that we think we know well, we don't pay as much attention to them, think about it,” he says.

On the stage - a black and white realm, but the emotions of the guests - the whole palette. Some even ran around the stage, danced and sang with happiness.

But this holiday - with sad notes. In February, the permanent president of the festival, Georgy Taratorkin, passed away. His memory was honored with a minute of silence. Igor Kostolevsky was unanimously elected as the new president.

“The festival is unique. No other country in the world has such a festival. He demonstrates a very high level of directing and acting. And what is nice, there are a lot of theaters from the provinces,” says Igor Kostolevsky.

In addition to Moscow and St. Petersburg - 23 more cities. For the first time teams from Kemerovo, Naberezhnye Chelny, Norilsk, Tver participated. Debut - and at the theater from the town of Sharypovo, in this troupe there are only ten actors. And immediately the victory of Holger Münzenmaier in the nomination "Supporting Actor" in the drama "Once Upon a Time".

To be or not to be an award to Danila Kozlovsky is not a question for the jury. They recognized his Hamlet as the best male role.

“I want to say thank you to my family - both parents and mother, who quite often asked me, where is her “Mask”? And today, finally, I can answer this question,” said the actor.

The toughest competition is for Best Director in a Drama. There were 28 names on the shortlist of the award. Lev Dodin, Mindaugas Karbauskis, Timofei Kulyabin, Dmitry Krymov... remained seated in their chairs. And the artistic director of the Bolshoi Drama Theatre. Tovstonogov in St. Petersburg Andrey Moguchiy. In this category, he wins the second year in a row. His "Thunderstorm" is by no means another attempt to update Ostrovsky.

“We looked more into the roots of the people, the roots of parables, the roots of fairy tales. I was more interested in the issue of archaism than the issue of adaptation or linking to the present,” explains the director.

The main prize for the best performance of a large form was given to the "Russian Romance" of the Mayakovsky Theater. The life story of Leo Tolstoy is shown through the eyes of his wife Sophia. For this role, Evgenia Simonova received the "Mask" as the best actress. The playwright Marius Ivaskevicius was also awarded. The creators of the production jokingly discovered the secret of success: when you take on the biography of one of the greatest writers, you simply have no right to do badly.

You can see some of the nominees and winners of the "Golden Mask" in the best Russian films and series on the website
