Tyumen Drama Theatre

In the middle of the 19th century, the inhabitants of the trading city of the Russian Empire, accustomed to meager entertainment and amusements like playing cards, were seriously surprised. In 1858, a drama theater opened in Tyumen! At first, professional actors did not perform in it. Families of prominent townspeople and merchants played more often. But this event has already strongly influenced the cultural life of the city and became the beginning of the history of the Tyumen Drama Theatre.

This is interesting!

The professional establishment opened in 1890. Its founder was the merchant A.I. Tekutiev. It was this philanthropist who financed the construction, the recruitment of actors for the troupe and other personnel. Therefore, from this year the drama theater in Tyumen was called Tekutievsky.

In his will, the merchant gave the establishment to the city. It was from this that the history of the drama theater as a municipal institution began. 26 years after the opening, the building was handed over to the city authorities.

Soon, the October Revolution thundered throughout the country. The Bolsheviks did not close the drama theater in Tyumen, but named it after V.I. Lenin. In the early twenties, the building, built with the money of a patron, burned down. But the city could not remain without a theater! The Bolsheviks were looking for places to show concerts and performances again.

The role of the Tyumen Drama Theater in Tyumen was played by the former salt warehouse of the merchant Tekutyev. It has often been reconstructed, refurbished and improved. Since 1924, the Tyumen Drama Theater began to be called the Chamber. During these years, the troupe was led by the actor, director and director Saburov-Dolin. This period of the life of the theater is still considered the best years.

After 11 years, the institution moved to a new building, where it is located to this day. In this regard, the theater in 1935 was named in honor of the seventeenth anniversary of the Red Army.

After another 9 years, the institution changed its name again. The war years demanded that the authorities reorganize the administrative division, so in 1944 Tyumen received the status of the main city of the Tyumen region, and the Bolshoi Drama Theater, respectively, became regional.

The troupe at different times included honored and people's artists of the RSFSR and in Russia. In addition, it is interesting that the drama theater in Tyumen is the largest in the whole country. In appearance, it is somewhat reminiscent of Moscow.

Of course, you can get acquainted with the exterior of the Tyumen Drama Theater from photos that are easy to find on the Internet. But you can truly appreciate all the grandeur of this building only by seeing it with your own eyes. And even better - visit the performances that take place in the large or small hall. The inside of the theater is also very beautiful. Both halls have been renovated recently, so all the guests of the institution note the luxury of their interior.

There are many places in Russia where you can spend time culturally with the whole family. Many prefer to relax by visiting museums, exhibitions and theaters. And where is the largest drama theater in Russia? Few people know that he is in Tyumen - this is the Tyumen Drama Theater. Its history began long before the construction of the main building that exists today.

Tyumen Drama Theatre: first production

In "Tobolsk Gubernskiye Vedomosti" one day there was news that a grandiose performance had taken place in Tyumen. This took place on February 8, 1858. Everyone was at a loss: where did the theater come from in this city? After all, Tyumen has always been considered a trading city, where only merchants live, but there are no officials and nobility. Who participated in the production - are they really merchants?

Indeed, there were no professional actors and troupe in Tyumen at that time, the performers were ordinary citizens under the guidance of the merchant Sheshukov Kondraty.

The first performance made a splash, the audience demanded more sessions. The actors had to show the same production for a whole year, but the hall was always crowded. People came again and again, each time watching the actors play as if for the first time.

Theater names

For a century and a half of its existence, the Tyumen Drama Theater has been renamed several times. So in 1919 it became the Lenin Theater - a quite expected name.

In 1924 it was renamed into chamber. The repertoire of this theater became diverse, it included all genres of acting and performing arts.

In 1924, the actor and director Saburov-Dolinin took over as director of the theater. Under his leadership, a troupe begins to work, which in two years has become the strongest in the history of the chamber theater. During these years, well-known capital actors played in the Tyumen Theater, various plays, fairy tales, dramas, musical performances and revolutionary miniatures were staged.

Eleven cast members changed from 1922 to 1935. At the same time, it was noted that the work of the theater is a parody of famous theaters, an imitation of them.

In 1935 the second building was opened. The institution was named "The Theater of the Seventeenth Anniversary of the Red Army". Three years later, a permanent professional troupe of actors was created here.

Tyumen Drama Theatre: poster during the war

At the height of the Great Patriotic War, it was regional, on its stage the actors showed revolutionary and military performances, children's fairy tales. It was a real salvation for the soldiers and ordinary residents of Tyumen. Indeed, during the war, people need to be distracted, remember that the war will end, forget about it for a while. The Tyumen Drama Theater helped them in this, its poster invited the audience to watch the next performance.

Moving to another building

The Tyumen Drama Theater in 1998 resumed the work of the small hall, which had been closed for a long time. Various performances began to be shown on its stage: comedies, dramas, psychological and musical performances.

In 2005, the theater changed its status - it became a non-profit cultural organization. In March 2008, the name changed again, now it is listed as the State Autonomous Cultural Institution.

In the same year, the regional government donated a new building to the theater, everyone was incredibly happy about such a move, but still a little sad. After all, a rather rich history has been preserved in the old building along Herzen Street.
