Panorama Lutheran Church in Zelenogorsk. Virtual tour Lutheran Church in Zelenogorsk

The Lutheran church stands apart. This is a small part of Finland, passed to Russia in the last century. reminds that Zelenogorsk has not only one name - it has another name - Terijoki, no less famous, albeit unofficial.

In general, any Lutheran church in Russia is unique in itself, as an interspersing of foreign culture into Russian traditions. On the territory of our country, you can count them on the fingers, and one of the most famous is the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord in Zelenogorsk, which will be discussed further.

The history of the Zelenogorsk Lutheran Church is rich in various events, both joyful and sad. It was built in 1908 by the famous architect Josef Stenbeck. Soon it was consecrated and in 1909 became the main Lutheran shrine in the area. Only thirty years have passed, and the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord, like all the local lands, experienced all the sorrows of the Winter War between the USSR and Finland. Kirkha, of course, suffered, but, judging by the photographs of those years, it did not have significant damage.

But the tests did not end there - the Second World War began. The church in Zelenogorsk at that time was partially destroyed, and in the surviving building at the beginning of the 41st year, the Pobeda cinema was organized. Probably, those who are more or less familiar with the history of those years, this is not surprising. But it still cannot leave you indifferent ...

But this cinema was not destined to exist for long. Just a few months later, the Finns again occupied Terijoki, returned the Lutheran church to its former status and resumed worship, which continued until the year 44. Then - the Soviet government and again a cinema ...

The restoration of the Lutheran parish in Zelenogorsk began only in the 1990s. The building of the Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord was transferred to the clergy, and a gradual restoration began. Finland provided great assistance in the implementation of this undertaking.

By joint efforts and money, by 2008, when the church in Zelenogorsk celebrated its centenary, all work to recreate the exterior and interiors was completed. The city received an interesting attraction, and the Lutherans - their long-awaited parish. I must say that the Finns love to come to Zelenogorsk for summer holidays, and the fact that there is a Lutheran church here is a good sign of the peaceful neighborhood of believers of different faiths.

In front of the Lutheran church in Zelenogorsk there is a small park. Several monuments have been erected here, reminding us of the difficult times of the mid-twentieth century. Closer to Lenin Avenue there is a monument of Reconciliation, which does not let you forget about the Soviet-Finnish war.

The words of the Evangelist Mark in Russian and Finnish are engraved on the pedestal: "Have peace among yourselves." The monument is a rifle stuck in the ground, from which young shoots grow.

Nearby is the monument to the Fallen. This is the grave of Finnish soldiers who died on this site in 1939-1943.

And behind the church of the Transfiguration of the Lord there is another square, a larger one. Walking along it, or along Lenin Avenue, you will find yourself at the Church of the Icon of the Kazan Mother of God, and then you will find yourself in, famous for its Golden Beach for the whole of St. Petersburg. But that's a completely different story.

The Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord is an Evangelical Lutheran church in Zelenogorsk, built according to the design of Josef Stenbeck in 1907-1908. It is under the jurisdiction of the Church of Ingria.

The Finnish Evangelical Lutheran parish in Terijoki was founded in 1904. In 1907-1908, according to the design of the architect Josef Stenbeck, a stone Evangelical Lutheran church was built, consecrated in 1908. In 1940 the bell tower was destroyed, and in May 1944 the church itself was closed. Its premises were converted into a cinema "Victory". On December 8, 1990, the Evangelical Lutheran parish was officially revived in Zelenogorsk. In 2001-2002, according to the project of architect A.V. Vasiliev and engineer E.M. Grishina, the church building was completely restored with the reconstruction of the bell tower. There is a small Finnish cemetery at the church. The church regularly hosts classical music concerts. So, since 2004, every summer (usually in July - August) on Sundays, the annual international music festival "Summer in Terijoki" is held here (artistic director - Honored Worker of Culture of the Russian Federation V. A. Shlyapnikov). In honor of the successful completion of the reconstruction and on the 100th anniversary of the construction, on September 14, 2008, the Bishop of the Church of Ingria Arri Kugappi performed a new solemn consecration of the church. The Orthodox Church of the Icon of the Mother of God of Kazan donated funds for the purchase of new church furniture, which was an excellent example of good neighborly coexistence of communities with different religious views. During the solemn mass, an organ played, a vocal quartet sang, candles burned, guests, patrons of the arts, leaders of communities made speeches.

"Whatever the Father gives Me, it will come to Me, and whoever comes to Me I will not cast out" (John 6:37)

Church of the Transfiguration, Evangelical Lutheran parish, has miraculously survived to this day. The temple, which shared the fate of a great many churches of the Orthodox, Catholic and Lutheran confessions, after 1940 served the Soviet government as a cinema. The bell tower was demolished, and for a person not familiar with church architecture, nothing indicated that the "Victory" cinema (such a malicious name was given) was once the House of God, the Church. But the Lord said: "My house will be called the House of Prayer" (Is. 56:7; Mac. 11:17), and in the 90s the House of Prayer was returned to believers and restored to almost all its former glory.
Now everyone can go to the temple and, having put a candle, turn their hearts in prayer to the Lord.

At present, the rector of the Evangelical Lutheran parish of Terijoki (Zelenogorsk) is Fr. Alexey Belousov.
