I am Russian, despite my appearance. I don’t think that Russians are needed abroad, only a few achieve success there. I want art to be on our media scene. And now I am developing in two directions - in both pop and jazz vocals there will always be something to strive for, in both genres there are famous singers of world fame. Music is my life, I will improve and work on myself.

In February 2019, the show of reincarnations "

The young talented performer Marie Carnet chose the path of a jazz singer. In an interview with JazzPeople, the participant of the popular TV vocal show told about the place of music in her life and to what audience she opens her heart on stage.

– Marie, your new program is called “My Story”. Tell us how it came about and what it means to you.

- We decided to call the program that way, because through the works included in it, I want to tell about myself, my path, about my attitude to music. The program includes my favorite songs: each of them is special for me, many of them have accompanied my creative life for many years. Here is the music of Soviet composers, and French chanson, and Latin American music, and world hits. These are the melodies that, I believe, are familiar to the listener, but they will sound in my reading.

With my program "My Story" I want to tell about myself, my way, about my attitude to music

"My story" - because next to me on the stage are well-known jazz musicians, colleagues with whom we are connected by various projects. Each of them is a unique creative unit, and I am very glad that we are all together in this program. My dream team: Lev Kushnir (piano, artistic director of the ensemble), Vladimir Chernitsyn (double bass), Alexei Denisov (drums), Alexander Shevtsov (guitar), Alexander Gureev (saxophone).

“My Story” also includes the performers who will come to support me at the concert on April 7: this is Renat Ibragimov, People's Artist of Russia, Alexandra Nikolaevna Pakhmutova introduced me to him at one time. I took part in her creative evenings a lot, as well as my colleagues in the Voice project - Ilya Yudichev and Edward Khacharyan, I am connected with each of them by friendship, creativity, and joint tours.

- You participated in the show "Voice" - how is your creative life after the project? Are there any friends you still keep in touch with today?

- I can’t say that my life has changed dramatically after the Voice project, because before it I participated in other television projects - in 2011 I went to represent Russia at the Slavianski Bazaar television festival in Vitebsk, in 2012 I participated in the national selection to Eurovision. And even as a child I participated in television contests, and the very first victory in my life was the Morning Star contest.

"Voice" is a wonderful project, a chance for any performer to make himself known, to expand the audience of his listeners. I participated in the very first season, and, of course, it was a breakthrough in music broadcasting, everything was new.

It was great for us to feel like "pioneers" of such a grandiose show

Now, of course, there are the most pleasant memories. And, of course, I made many new friends - talented musicians, we are friends with many, we keep in touch, we meet at national concerts.

I have a very busy creative life - concerts, tours. For about ten years I have been actively collaborating with the Jazz Music Orchestra. O. Lundstrem. For example, last year I participated in concerts dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Lundstrem - in Moscow, and trips around Russia, including the Far East, and tours abroad, even to countries such as China and India. And she combined all this with her own concerts and tours.

- Why did you decide to connect your life with music? And why did they choose singing and not playing a musical instrument?

I have been with music all my life! And I never even imagined myself outside of it! At the age of 3, my parents sent me to a children's art school, where I began to sing, from the age of 5 I was a student of the children's musical theater and music school in piano. So, by the way, I've been with the instrument all my life. And in childhood, in addition to vocal competitions, I also performed at the piano. But I never had a choice - I consider it a must for a vocalist to have a good command of the instrument, and to be a singer is what I have always dreamed of.

Not always a talented musician manages to break through the walls of the "format"

- Is it easy for you, as a young musician, to show your talent on the modern stage? How does your audience feel about jazz music at concerts?

– Today, the stage presents a variety of directions, genres and all kinds of styles. And the public certainly has plenty to choose from. But, unfortunately, not always talented musicians can express themselves and get through to their audience.

Break through the walls of the "format"! And, of course, as a young singer, I often come across this too. Fortunately, I meet wonderful musicians and composers on my way, I have the opportunity to sing in wonderful concert halls. I think that no matter what, you need to mind your own business and move forward.

Jazz music, in my opinion, has been gaining popularity in our country in recent years. And what is especially pleasant is that not only an adult exquisite audience is interested in her, but also young people.

Jazz music at concerts is always an elegant decoration of the evening

– Who could be inspired by your story of ascent into the world of art and why?

– I think that any person! After all, this is happiness - doing what you love, having fun and sharing this joy with others!

Interviewed by Victoria Mall

TSKHINVAL, Feb 10 - Sputnik, Katya Valieva. On February 7, the capital of South Ossetia will host a solo concert by Russian pop singer and pianist, participant of the Voice project, Marie Carne. Before the performance, the artist gave an exclusive interview to Sputnik.

It was a conscious choice of song. This song, a classic of world jazz, can reveal the individuality of the performer like no other. I had no doubts and, I think, everything that I had in mind, I managed to manifest.

They call you the Russian Fitzgerald, the new Piaf, which speaks of the high appreciation of your work. Who is your jazz god, teacher?

I was brought up on different music, the basis is the classics. She grew up on the best examples of classical music. I came to jazz at the age of 15, having entered the State Musical College of Variety Jazz Art in Moscow. This is a high level educational institution. There I got to know jazz better, listened to Louis Armstrong, Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughn, in general, the list of my idols is extensive.

At this age, I had an important event in my life - I became a guest soloist of the State Chamber Orchestra. O. Lundstrem. This is a huge honor for me. Not everyone at that age will have the opportunity to sing with an orchestra, especially with an orchestra with such a history. Almost ten years have passed. We traveled all over Russia, were abroad. Now I can safely say that the artistic director of the orchestra, Boris Nikolaevich Frumkin, became my godfather in jazz. I am infinitely grateful to him. He is an amazing musician, my teacher, friend and mentor. And so, I try not to look for idols, I want to absorb all the best, but to be like only myself.

Tell us about how your musical career developed, about your participation in the "Voice" project?

- I can’t say that the “Voice” has become some kind of guiding star for me, because before the project I went through a lot. Being on stage since the age of 5, I was lucky to perform on the stage of the Kremlin Palace, the concert hall "Russia", at the largest venues in Moscow. My first television project is "Morning Star". Even then I felt what it was. In 2011, I represented Russia at the "Slavianski Bazaar" in Vitebsk. This is a nationwide festival. After there was a qualifying competition for Eurovision, where I competed with such contestants as Dima Bilan and other well-known artists. When I came to the Voice project, I was "hardened", with some kind of immunity.

You have been to many Russian cities. I was always interested in the perception of South Ossetia by young artists? Having not yet met the public, what are your impressions of the city, the people you have already met?

- A year ago I was in Vladikavkaz. This is my first time in South Ossetia. I was amazed by the hospitality and openness of people. Wherever we go, whoever we talk to, we are warmly welcomed. Very bright people. When strangers meet you like this, you already have some confidence that the audience at the concert will feel you. Of course, there is excitement, but I really hope that everything goes well.

How was the idea to give a solo concert in Tskhinvali born?

“It’s great that there is such an opportunity to give people wonderful music. The initiative of the President of the Republic Leonid Tibilov and the Ambassador of South Ossetia to Russia Znaur Gassiev to organize this event is a joy both for the artist and for the residents. The program is very versatile. I think everyone will find something for the soul.

I know that there are not enough such events in Tskhinvali. I believe that the "cultural hunger" will be satisfied with pleasure, that the visits of Russian and world stars will become regular. Art is uplifting. Thank you that I can be here and sing for you.

Now art is going through hard times. Age of sports and politics. Who listens to jazz? Are there true connoisseurs among the younger generation?

— Quality music will always be, no matter what. Jazz will live. Many pop groups are flourishing, therefore, the public loves and appreciates them. Halls gather, people are interested - this is very important. In the cauldron of show business, everything is just not boiled, but there is always a place for quality, I'm sure.

Are you loyal to jazz music, quality music in general? Are you ready to perform pop music in its current manifestation for the sake of popularity and circulation?

- I work in different directions, I'm not afraid to experiment, I try to sing in various genres, I sing with an orchestra and with a DJ. I do not build frames in music. Main quality.

Where do you see yourself in 10 years? Imagine that you are also giving an interview, what would you like to be?

Thank you for the opportunity to dream. Of course, I'm into music. I will come to the already prosperous, happy Tskhinval. Art unites. I am aware of the processes that are taking place now. You are truly returning to your roots, unite. It's hard to guess, I see myself on stage and I see people for whom I sing smiling. So be it!

Do you have an anthem? A song that is close to you, that you perform, referring to yourself or to the public?

- One of my favorite songs is the song that I performed at the Eurovision preselection. It was written by Kim Breitburg, lyrics by Evgeny Muravyov. Everyone will find themselves in these lines. Fulfilling it, I address, as you rightly said, both to myself and to you, to people:

"Sinners and saints, complex and simple,

We love and hate, everyone is their own judge.

We are between darkness and light, between fate and heaven

I am like you, and you are like me."

Talking with Marie, you are convinced that people who are in love with jazz see and feel everything around them - especially. The young singer with already “mature” musical experience spoke about her rich path in music. The artist did not hide her admiration for the nature and people of the republic and said that she wanted to come to happy Tskhinvali soon.

- In the blind voting, did you make a bold choice by performing the hit "Summertime" in your own interpretation? Was there no fear of condemnation or rejection of the submission?
It was a conscious choice of song. This song, a classic of world jazz, can reveal the individuality of the performer like no other. I had no doubts and, I think, everything that I had in mind, I managed to manifest.
