Hvorostovsky and other world opera stars will sing at the palace. “Classics on Palace Square On Sunday, elephants will pass along the Nevsky Prospekt, and a concert will be held near the Peter and Paul Fortress

There were not so many people in St. Petersburg even at the matches of the football world championship.

According to official figures, 65,110 people attended the Leningrad concert at the St. Petersburg football arena. So many stadium concerts in Russia have never collected.

Previously, the top 5 was:
Metallica, "Luzhniki", July 18, 2007. 62,000 people.
U2, "Luzhniki", August 25, 2010. 60,000 people.
imagine Dragons, "Luzhniki", August 29, 2018. 55,000 people.
"Leningrad", "Opening Arena", July 13, 2017. 47,000 people.
Red Hot Chili Peppers, "Luzhniki", July 22, 2012. About 40,000 - 50,000 people (data vary).

We did not include Michael Jackson's concert in the rating, which he gave at Luzhniki on September 15, 1993, since it is now difficult to estimate how many people were there in reality. For example, "Kommersant" (issue dated September 17, 1993) writes: "80 thousand spectators were waiting in the open air for the appearance of an idol." Novye Izvestia, on the other hand, gives completely different data - that 30,000 tickets were not sold, that the stadium was almost empty due to terrible weather, but in the end, somewhere around 60,000 people still gathered. Also on the network you can find information that 50,000 tickets were sold for Jackson's concert.

Artists also performed at the opening ceremonies of the World Cup and the 2014 Olympics at Luzhniki (78,011 spectators) and Fisht (40,000 spectators), respectively, but they should not be taken into account - these are sporting events. Rallies and concerts were also held in Luzhniki - for example, on November 4, 2017. It was reported that 130 thousand people came to the rally-concert at that time. But it should be regarded as more of a political than a musical event.

If we take into account non-stadium concerts, then, for example, the rock festival "Invasion" in 2001 was attended by over 100 thousand people. At the DDT concert on Palace Square in 1993, 120,000 people attended. True, and the entrance to it was free.

The very best concert in terms of attendance in Russia was held on September 6, 1997, when they celebrated the 850th anniversary of Moscow. Jean-Michel Zhar put on a show on the Sparrow Hills that was watched by all of Moscow. Wikipedia has an astounding figure of 3.5 million people! Maybe an exaggeration, but witnesses say: there were an incredibly large number of people.

There were big concerts in the days of the USSR. Not just big - grandiose!

On September 28, 1991, the legendary concert "Monsters of Rock in Moscow" gathered a gigantic audience. Information varies: somewhere they write about 400 thousand, somewhere (for example, in the English-language Wikipedia) - about one and a half million people. Cult groups performed - Pantera, Metallica, AC / DC.

On August 12 and 13, 1989, the Moscow Music Peace Festival was held at Luzhniki. In two days, 180 thousand people visited it. Very powerful rock stars arrived - Ozzy Osbourne, Bon Jovi, Mötley Crüe, Skid Row, Scorpions, Cinderella.

On June 24, 1990, a concert of the Kino group took place at Luzhniki. It was visited by about 70 thousand people. That is, this is the most visited solo concert in the history of our country. For Kino, he was the last - on August 15, 1990, Viktor Tsoi died in a car accident.

This weekend, May 26 and 27, 2018, the city on the Neva celebrates its 315th birthday. Many events dedicated to the City Day in the Northern capital are traditional - an ice cream festival, a ball of nationalities and a classical music concert on Palace Square. In 2018, the authorities have planned new events, no less bright and solemn.

So, in honor of the celebration of the City Day in St. Petersburg in 2018, a large-scale bicycle parade will take place, which will block the city center on the morning of May 27. Circus performers will also pass through the center on May 27 - the procession of theatergoers, accompanied by live elephants, promises to be especially large-scale.

No less bright events await the townspeople and guests in the coming hours - a concert of classical music will be held on Palace Square with the participation of invited opera stars, and at night the Singing Fountains show starts - the light and music action will end with a passage between the leaves of the divorced Palace Bridge of a real professional, and even hereditary tightrope walker.

Classics at Dvortsovaya 2018 - what will be presented to the public, who will perform

The concert, which starts at 21.00, promises to amaze with the number of professionals taking the stage, bright decorations, excellent sound quality and mesmerizing ballet work.

The action will last two hours - until 23.00, respectively.

The tradition of holding open-air concerts exists in many cities of the world and in Russia in particular. In St. Petersburg, the show is always different from others, because the city is congratulated on its birthday not just by stars, but by world stars of classical singing, the site reports. Both connoisseurs and simple yawns, who want to understand and feel the full power of the event, try to join the action.

At one time, it was here, in the concert “Classics on Dvortsovaya”, that one could hear the world-famous Russian performer Dmitry Hvorostovsky for many years in a row. The last time he sang here last year, in May 2017, and in November he was taken on his last journey, because the singer was terminally ill. Anna Netrebko, a friend of the harsh days of Hvorostovsky and also a star of Russian and world opera, is also a regular at the Classics at the Palace, but this year the concert will take place without her.

Despite the absence of major headliners, the concert program will again surprise fans of classical art with the versatility of the repertoire and the charismatic performance of masterpieces by Rossini, Bellini, Donizetti, Bizet, Verdi, Gounod, Strauss and other great composers.

The stars of the evening will be a brilliant duet of stars of the world opera stage.

She is the Polish "Queen of Improvisation" with the talent of a dramatic actress, the owner of an inimitably light soprano and simply a favorite of the public around the world.

Together they Roberto Alagna and Alexandra Kurzhak, a bright creative and married couple, and "Classics on Dvortsovaya" is their debut open-air in Russia.

This evening, Petersburgers and guests of the city will be able to enjoy another magnificent soprano: the winner of the BBC Singer of the World Award Valentina Nafornitsa will take part in open-air at Dvortsovaya for the second time. In 2015, the square applauded the brilliant duet of Valentina and Dmitry Hvorostovsky.

The real highlight of the Classics 2018 program will be the performers whose skill and talent are in demand on the most prestigious opera stages in the world. Petersburg will be congratulated on its 315th anniversary by the golden voices of the Russian opera school: Venera Gimadieva, Alexei Markov, Oksana Volkova, Pavel Kolgatin, Alexei Tikhomirov Alexander Trofimov.

The dance part of the show will be decorated with soloists of the Bolshoi and Mikhailovsky theaters, ballet by Alla Dukhova "TODES", ballet dancers of the Leonid Yakobson Theater. Premiere performance of the dance and sports club " DUET", the current world champion in Latin American dances, will spice up the Classics program with unbridled expression and bewitching synchronicity of performance.

It should be noted that "Classics on the Palace" began its history five years ago, in 2013, and has become a good tradition of celebrating the City Day in St. Petersburg.

You can also watch the concert on the Kultura TV channel and online on the Web.

Blocking traffic in St. Petersburg on May 26

The concert, which will last about two hours, will undoubtedly be an excellent culmination of the first day of the celebration of the city's anniversary. At the same time, some inconveniences of the townspeople are still waiting - the classics will block the center of St. Petersburg for motorists, because a myriad of people usually gather for a free concert.

By the way, this year Classics is also a highlight of the completion of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, a large-scale event with the participation of professionals from all over the world.

Five large-sized LED video screens will be installed for spectators on Palace Square.

In general, over 200 square meters of video projection canvas will be used to create visual art effects on the square and on the stage.

As a gift to connoisseurs of ballet art, the program of the classical evening includes fragments from choreographic masterpieces performed by famous artists. A special, truly St. Petersburg atmosphere will be given to the evening by the performances of the artists of the Theater "Mr. Pejo's Wandering Dolls".
