“I’m embarrassed by my body”: how shows are done in different countries of the world. Presenter “I’m ashamed of my body” Ekaterina Bezvershenko: photo, personal life

To date, there have already been 4 seasons of the reality show about health “I’m ashamed of my body”, the permanent presenters of which are Ekaterina Bezvershenko, Lyudmila Shupenyuk and Valery Oslavsky. Each of them has already managed to acquire a huge army of fans, but most of all the audience liked Ekaterina, who won their hearts with her intelligence, beauty and powerful charisma.

The birth of a future medical luminary

Ekaterina was born into a family of doctors in 1979. Throughout her childhood, she listened to her parents talk about saving lives and dreamed of following in their footsteps. She wanted to help people, treat them and save them, feeling needed by society. That's why she entered the Kiev National Medical University in 1995, from which she graduated with honors. After this, Ekaterina Bezvershenko underwent a complex medical practice, where she gained experience and went to work first at the Institute of Clinical Medicine, and then at the Kiev Dermatoveneral Dispensary No. 3. Now she has been working at the Clinic Nova hospital for many years, taking every more than a dozen patients a day. Each of them tries to make an appointment with Ekaterina in advance in order to definitely get to a real professional in their field and receive invaluable help or at least advice on further treatment.

The reasons why she became the host of the show “I Shame My Body”

According to Ekaterina, she became the host of the inspiring show “I’m ashamed of my body,” primarily in order to increase the level of confidence of Ukrainians in domestic medicine. After all, most of them are firmly convinced that high-quality help can only be obtained abroad, although this is not at all the case. Many true professionals and doctors with golden hands successfully work in Ukraine. This is exactly what Ekaterina Bezvershenko is trying to show in the TV show “I’m Ashamed of My Body,” when, together with her colleagues, she tries to help patients with even the most serious illnesses. And, what’s nice, doctors almost always manage to achieve what they want, and with each successful case, more and more Ukrainians gain confidence in domestic doctors. The second reason that forced Ekaterina to become a presenter is her desire for the overall health of the nation, because the program, in addition to treating advanced cases of diseases, also talks about ways to prevent them. And preventing the development of a disease is always easier than curing it.

Difficulties and stress experienced by the host of the show “I’m ashamed of my body”

Naturally, filming such a tough reality show cannot always go smoothly. People come to the program with serious problems, severe life situations who talk about their grief and share their experiences. In this situation, it is especially important to remain friendly and try not to show your emotions, which can sometimes be quite difficult. And only thanks to true professionalism, Ekaterina Bezvershenko manages to control herself and not cry when she hears about another human tragedy.

Moreover, the cases in the TV show are really serious. According to Katerina herself, she was very touched by the story of an oncology patient who fought cancer with all her might; I remember a girl with ingrown nails who, despite her illness, was a very bright and positive person. The doctor was also very impressed by the history of Bogdan’s skin disease, which was directly related to the enormous amount of stress in his life. But sometimes, in addition to participation and calmness, a woman had to demonstrate her inner strength, as, for example, in the situation with the patient Ivanna, who had and was too careless towards herself. However, thanks to Katerina, she finally came to her senses, began treatment, as a result, she recovered and began to lead an active social life.

Catherine's secret personal life

The country's most famous dermatovenerologist prefers to remain silent about his personal life. Ekaterina does not talk about her on reality shows, does not answer such questions in interviews, thereby seeming to keep all the information classified as “Top Secret.” Because of this, a wide variety of rumors, sometimes completely unrealistic, are circulating about the personal life of Ekaterina Bezvershenko. So, for example, some sources claim that Katerina is very happily married to her husband, while others completely refute this fact, claiming that the woman divorced him. However, something about family life The host of the reality show still knows that she has a daughter, in whom she turned 12 in 2016.

The downside of Catherine's popularity

Despite the fact that the popularity of Ekaterina Bezvershenko has brought her many benefits and given her many fans and even a nomination for the title of “Woman of the Year” in 2016, there is another side to her fame. So, one day she suffered from scammers who used her name to sell creams for breast lift and excess pigmentation. Of course, such advertising medicines immediately made them popular, which played a role cruel joke. After all, the drugs were counterfeit, so they did nothing but harm, and Katerina, whose good name got hurt then, so she had to spend own investigation and bring the scammers to clean water.

If a year ago, when the show “I’m ashamed of my body” was just beginning its sometimes shocking march on the air of STB, I had a lot of questions for the head of TO No. 3, which produces it, Miroslav Domalevsky, then a year later there were only more of them. However, Miroslav was not afraid of my questions either then or now. And, as practice has shown, we can talk about this project endlessly - we talked for an hour, and I left only because it was somehow inconvenient to strain a respected producer even longer.

- The project is one year old, we can sum up some results. Were your expectations met?

I think yes. The indicators are very good for both the first season and the second - its average share was 19.09% (audience 14-49, 50+, - MN ). I can even admit that we did not expect this. And that's very cool. We touched on a layer of problems that had not been touched upon before. And the fact that similar projects have appeared on other channels suggests that we are ahead of the rest (laughs).

- Why didn’t you expect it?

Because the project is complex and revealing. We went to Britain and reviewed everything we did there in the Embarassing bodies format. On early stages It was difficult for us for many reasons. I’ll say more: we didn’t want to do this project. Yes, no one on the channel wanted to take on him! For all the TO directors, this was something akin to punishment. When they gave it to our TO, and we realized that there was nowhere to go... I remember how we sat with Dasha Mayboroda, and she practically had tears in her eyes. It is clear that an artist always wants to show something beautiful. And here are people with huge problems who also look very unattractive. But then we tried to look at it differently and said to each other: “Let's think about how we would like to make it. What would we like to tell people? And as a result, our version of the project was born. It seems to me that it is very different from the original: first of all, due to the psychological component. Why, for example, does a person walk with a hernia for 10 years and do nothing? Why did the patient let her breasts rot to the point where they rotted? We try to reach people, understand them, accept them and change them.

And than, new project- it's always a risk. But in in this case the risk was worth it.

- How did formatters evaluate your product?

Positively. Despite the fact that the British are generally very stingy with compliments. But they basically appreciate everything we do. Borodyansky said that in Cannes, on the telemarket, the formatters admitted that, for example, “Honey, we are killing children” is probably the most unique and successful version of that format. They themselves made two seasons of the project and did not understand what they could film about next. But we are doing the fifth and have not run out. The situation is similar with “I’m embarrassed by my body.” The only difference is that the British continue to make this project to this day. And, in my opinion, very good.

- Has there been a crisis over this year?

It seems to me that the topic of medicine is eternal theme. Contacts us great amount people with various diseases, and I hope we will not repeat ourselves. But so far, in the second season, the topics have not yet dried up. And then everything depends on us - we will try to look for something new.

- People, having already understood how they would be shown in the project, did not become wary of participating in it?

No. The number of people wishing to join us has only increased - this was evident from the castings that take place at the very beginning of filming. And to be honest, I don’t think that what we show is bad. There are many opinions. We fight so hard for external freedom, but it begins inside. So, a sign of inner freedom is the ability to talk openly about your problems. And people often neglect their illnesses and run away from them because they are not free inside.

- During the filming process, were there any cases when one of the characters said: “That’s it, I’m leaving”?

No. The heroes, plus or minus, understand that the project is frank, and we are not radio. Accordingly, if they show up with us, it means they agree to show everyone their problem.

The story of this woman with rotten breasts is interesting: the man was afraid to go to the doctor’s office, but was not afraid to tell millions about everything. Where is the logic?

Well, she went to a certain... I don’t even know what to call him. Probably a charlatan. We still don't know what this man did. Maybe he just made the situation worse. Well, she was afraid. But there was a reason why she was afraid: a man died of cancer before her eyes, and she believed that the problem was with the doctors... Thanks to us, we managed to prolong her life a little, but we cannot cure her, and she knows about it . But we really hope that she will live longer. How much is difficult to predict, because this is oncology.

- A year ago you said that one of the goals of the project was to restore trust in doctors. Happened?

Yes! Do you know why I say this? The doctors of our project simply began to see a huge influx of patients. And this means that we are changing the situation. And this, of course, makes me very happy.

- Doctors must have begun to rush in to see you?

Certainly. If earlier even our doctors were afraid of participating in the project, not knowing how they would be perceived - after all, it is not customary in society to talk about problems so openly - now they receive a huge amount positive feedback. And, of course, there are many doctors who want to get into our project. But we are not currently considering anyone as an additional doctor.

In a previous interview, you also said that people, associating the project with makeovers, went with injuries, hoping to get help plastic surgeon...Have you not changed your position towards them?

No. Well, we have cases... Just recently a patient came in with protruding ears. And we took her, despite the fact that this was a little out of our profile, and we told her about it. But it was so hard and painful for her that we couldn’t resist. As for plastic surgery: if it’s size 12 breasts that interfere with your life, come to us. Although this is plastic surgery. But if the problem can be solved with the help of aesthetic surgery and does not interfere with life, this is not our profile. There are other projects and formats for this.

- In general, what difficulties did you encounter during this time?

Well, for example, our patient Ivanna is a boy and a girl. Or rather, as we have already found out through many analyzes and studies, she was born a boy. But due to the fact that the mother’s previous child was of the same type, but a girl, both the doctors and the mother decided to “make” this boy a girl. At the age of 16, this boy underwent surgery, and he became a girl - handicapped, of course. But he didn’t even imagine what would happen next. And in this family it is not customary to talk about it. And the person suffers. This is a difficult situation for us. Because I want the boy to be a boy. But according to the passport, this is already a girl, and returning him to the body of a boy is not so easy - everything has been cut off from him, a vagina has been made. Gender change in our country takes about three years to obtain various permits, and from 30 to 40 days of observation psychiatric clinic. But we also take on such very difficult cases. Because we want to help.

- Were there any complaints from the heroes or their relatives after the programs aired?

No. Well, they understand in the process how it will be. And then, you know, when people’s lives change, when a person who could not have children finally became pregnant, the fact that someone saw him somewhere is not like some kind of payment... But, it seems to me, our heroes in the process they become one with us.

- What stories became significant for you personally?

From last season- these are the stories that I have already named. I was shocked by the heroine's story with breast cancer. It’s like you don’t have to love yourself for the situation to get so out of control! This is a situation when a person already clearly understands that he is dying and systematically commits... Or rather, does not perform certain actions. And he kills himself. There was a lot of talk about whether we did the right thing by naming the project “Honey, We Kill Children” that way. I believe it is correctly named. Because parents do to their children the same thing that this woman did to her body.

And if we talk about the first season, then my favorite is definitely Tanya Lapchenko, who had problems with her legs due to elephantiasis.

A difficult situation, because due to currency fluctuations, we were not able to help her fully, as we had originally planned. But thanks to a fundraiser on ubb.org and a sponsor who contributed a large sum, we finally managed to send Tanya to Germany for treatment.

There were other difficulties: our intermediaries in Germany turned out to be dishonest. We were told completely different amounts; they said that it was impossible to meet with the founder of the clinic, Mrs. Földi, that we needed to make an appointment almost six months in advance and pay money for the meeting. And we are almost desperate. But then we just got in touch directly, and it turned out that it didn’t cost any money at all, we could meet, and it wasn’t that difficult. It’s just that, unfortunately, there are dishonest people. It hurts. And sometimes I understand our patients: of course, you despair when you encounter something like this.

But it seems to me that our project as a whole will change the healthcare system in the country. People will start turning to doctors, and they will finally remember the Hippocratic Oath.

- What is Tatyana’s fate now?

Everything is very good. There, in the clinic, everything is not just like that. Before Tanya was discharged, she took an exam: on self-massage, on keeping herself in the right shape. And she passed. Now everything depends on her. We have not lost touch with Tanya. It's probably wrong to say this, but she is our favorite. So far, no one has changed their attitude to health as much as she has! Tanya - only person in my memory, which does absolutely everything that the doctors recommended! To be honest, I didn’t believe that such a result could be achieved.

- Do you keep in touch with all your heroes?

At this stage - yes. Well, there are patients with whom we have lost contact due to the situation in Crimea or Donetsk. Although we tried to find them. We keep in touch with those who have the opportunity. But, of course, we won’t do this forever. And I am sure that as soon as people are left alone with themselves, some of them will let themselves go again.

In "Dear..." there are families in which everything has returned to normal. Yes, we helped them. And then efforts are required on their part - everything needs to be changed completely. I don't think we can change everyone. We need to look at things realistically.

- I'm interested in the risk factor. After all, treatment may not always give results...

Well, we have a blind patient. We understand that somewhere in America they can try to implant a special chip in her... But she won’t be able to see: perhaps there will be some outlines, she will understand that someone is moving... But this is not what I would like to achieve. If we give a person hope, then we must go to the end and do everything possible as much as possible. Therefore, we do not take on this situation. Although I would really like to help a woman who has never seen her child.

In the case of Tanya Lapchenko, we took on a problem in which we did not fully know what we could do. And the situation was against us. But we didn’t stop, we started looking for money in any way and, in the end, we found it. I hope that we will not have situations that we cannot cope with.

Now let's touch on one of the most pressing topics - the demonstration of genitals in the show. There are, it seems to me, situations when this, it would seem, could not be done... For example, a story about a woman weighing about 300 kg.

Well, that was one of the tests she had to undergo. I don't see anything seditious in this. In addition, we are quite strict and attentive to the number of such frames and show only what a person actually goes through. So that people who have the disease clearly understand what awaits them.

- But it was possible to show the same inspection not close-up, and, for example, from afar?

We have patients who are not ready to be shown from such angles. And we don’t show them - there is a sheet for such cases. We also had such patients.

- Do you have any taboos?

Good question. I did not think about that. Well, probably... No matter how paradoxical it may sound, we will not show causal places as an end in themselves. Although, perhaps, based on the fact that we, in principle, show them and do not consider it shameful, this sounds strange. But we have limits. Yes, we define them ourselves. But we feel where what needs to be shown and where it is not necessary. And a taboo for us is a person’s reluctance. In this case, we will not show some things. Everything happens with the consent of the heroes.

Judging by the reviews, many people are shocked by such a frank demonstration of diseased organs, etc. However, the show is watched.

We have an interesting study on this topic. Why do people have rejection? It turns out that this is a feeling of shame generated by a feeling of fear: “What if I also get sick like this? It’s better to run away from it, not to look.” This is a natural reaction: they say, if I don’t think about it and look at it, this won’t happen to me. But this is a bluff.

For example, in one of the latest stories we talk about cancer. About the need to do tumor markers, especially if someone in your family has had cancer. You can, of course, not think about it. I can say about myself: I always lived in fear, because my grandmother died of leukemia, and my grandfather died of pancreatic cancer. And I was afraid until I started doing tests, donating blood and doing tumor markers. Even the Angelina Jolie situation has a lot to teach us. Maybe she went too far, but she didn’t let things take their course.

- Now about arch stories. I know that many people literally go into hysterics if they don’t find out the ending right away...

We started having arc stories back in the first season. We did not pursue such a goal - it simply turned out that the treatment took much longer than we expected. That is why such “serials” appeared. But when we learn some new facts, I think it’s simply wrong not to talk about them. And we talk. We have two goals: to help people and to create a high-quality television product. We employ professionals high level, which know how to create intrigue - this is dramaturgy. According to the laws of dramaturgy, everything related to cinema and TV is created. But we use this technique only in cases where we are personally interested in watching the development of history.

- During this time, you have already seen and heard so much. Has your attitude towards health changed?

It has changed a lot! And not only for me. I recently had the flu, and Borodyansky... forbade me to go to work! This has never happened before! We are soldiers who will work in bad weather, in fire, and in water, overcoming ourselves. And then... I was so surprised! And Borodyansky said: “We are filming such a project! We tell people how important it is to take care of their health. But we don’t do this ourselves.”

And sometimes it even seems to me that we do these projects, first of all, for ourselves.

They really do change us. When Zvazheni appeared, we all started going to the gym. I started using healthy foods so as not to get so tired. Because heavy foods, fried foods, and meat make you feel tired. And when everything is balanced and correct, you feel at ease and your efficiency increases. Therefore, we all began to conduct healthy image life. We have no moral right to teach what we do not do ourselves. And this is part of our philosophy.

Although I can’t say that I started turning to doctors for every reason. But I'm on my way. In fact, I am not so different from our patients... But, thank God, not everything is so neglected. We often consult with the doctors of our project. Sometimes I approach our dermatologist Katya: “Look at my mole, it seems to me that it’s somehow different”. But there’s also this moment... I’m a hypochondriac. And if something happens to me, it immediately seems to me that I am dying. But I don’t run to the doctor at the first call. Although I’m already running on the tenth.

- Don’t friends and relatives seek advice?

And I myself come up and say: so, you have this and that. My father has a hernia, and he doesn’t want to have surgery. But he’s 70 this year, and I understand him. I really hope that he will decide. But he must make this decision himself.

- STB has now launched a new medical show. Isn't it a bit much - two medical shows for one channel?

I don't think so. We have a lot of talent shows, and the audience watches them. Why not?

- Do you share your experience with colleagues?

Well, not so much experience... We met with the guys, they asked some questions, and we continue to communicate. So there is interaction. I’ll even tell you a secret that our patients will also appear in this project.

- Can you predict the lifespan of your project?

The share indicates that the public is interested in him. And we don’t have any analogues yet. There are some attempts to do something on the same topic. But still, the direction and focus that we have is very individual. We are talking about advanced situations, diseases that directly border on death. I think this will continue to be interesting to watch.

Yes, it’s interesting for us to do the project. If earlier I howled and approached Borodyansky with a question: "Why me?", then everything has changed now! We understand how important what we do is. Therefore, I think the project will live for quite a long time.

Well, it seems like we've sorted it out. The heroes have no complaints, people like it, the producers are inspired, the number of happy patients is growing. That's okay. In the end, who is in charge? Viewer. Whether Miroslav is right in his forecast, time will tell, of course. Sorry for the banality.

The heroes of the show were ordinary people with real pathologies that tried to carefully hide their imperfections: diseases that are generally considered unaesthetic, and which society prefers not to talk about. Brave program participants will be able to receive qualified medical assistance to get started. new life. The whole story of the patient will unfold before the eyes of viewers: arrival at the clinic, examinations, surgery and positive changes. Sometimes researching a disease (searching for the root cause and ways to overcome this disease) will resemble a real detective story.

In fact similar projects have been going on in other countries for a long time. All of them enjoy constant popularity among viewers, creating sensations not on scandals, intrigues and investigations, but on simple stories not quite ordinary people.

“You will close your eyes, turn away from the screen in embarrassment, but you are unlikely to want to switch the TV. This project is a bitter medicine for those who leave their health for later. It’s painful to watch, but it’s impossible to tear yourself away,” general producer channel "U" Dmitry Tabachnik.

England

First release of the program Embarrassing Bodies released on English television on May 17, 2007. Viewers immediately drew attention to the project, which not only transforms people, but solves real problems - from a huge wart to gender reassignment. After all, despite modern development medicine, doctors cannot cure all diseases, and many people have to live with unpleasant symptoms. In addition, with the availability of all kinds of medications, it is very easy to get carried away with self-medication without first finding out your own diagnosis. And only harm yourself.

The creators of the program chose a completely unusual format. Spreading the sacred mantra “We are all the same - why be ashamed?”, Drs. Christy, Pixie and Dawn traveling in a large van around the UK. From Brighton to Glasgow, London to Belfast, their mobile clinic is ready to welcome all shy patients suffering from hidden ailments. Moreover, some episodes were generally shown in live when patients sent pictures or videos to email or Skype and immediately received a qualified response from specialists. There is also an interactive website, which, by the way, is better not for the faint of heart.

A whole series of spin-offs was created based on the project. So, a series of programs about overweight teenagers was released, oncological diseases and problems of sexual pathologies. And in order to strengthen the viewers’ faith in the reality of what is happening and that there is no problem that cannot be solved, viewers are shown episodes involving former heroes shows that tell how their lives changed after the project.

The whole world knows them

Australia

No matter where a person lives, one cannot escape from problems. So residents of a country where there are many wild kangaroos also experience problems that they are embarrassed to tell even their closest people. And when they have to explain to the doctor what’s wrong, these people either turn pale or blush with shame and embarrassment. The television crew for the Australian version of the program includes doctors Ginny Mansberg, Sam Seno and Brad McKay. Almost every third viewer knows them by sight. The program takes place in one of the Australian clinics. Among those who have overcome their embarrassment and consulted doctors are a patient with anal warts, a woman with an abnormally high-pitched “cartoon” voice, a grandmother whose skin keeps peeling off, a man with a testicular cyst and other Australians. “There’s nothing shameful about it!” - say doctors and develop an individual course of treatment for everyone. And even if in some cases medicine turns out to be powerless, people stop being ashamed of their body and thereby get rid of a number of problems.

American doctors Christian, Don and James They rely on the psychological component of the project. They help the program participants not only deal with their non-standard problems, but also teach them to treat themselves in a new way, not to be ashamed of natural things and not to humiliate themselves. After watching this version of the show, you can learn not only to monitor your health, but to overcome the fear of going to the doctor and understand that each of us has the right to support from other people, including strangers.

Ukraine

Perhaps the Ukrainian adaptation of the program is the most striking to date. Valery Oslavsky, 35 years old, trauma surgeon (10 years of experience); Vasily Pariy, 47 years old, orthopedist-traumatologist, doctor of the highest category, candidate medical sciences(22 years of experience); Lyudmila Shupenyuk, 47 years old, obstetrician-gynecologist, doctor of the highest category (23 years of experience), and Ekaterina Bezvershenko, 37 years old, dermatologist-venereologist, doctor of the highest category, candidate of medical sciences (15 years of experience), in 2014 they agreed to become guides to the shy public into the world of health. And so it began... Doctors solved the problem of the heroine, who turned to the project with a request to reduce size 11 breasts. But if the problem can be solved with the help of aesthetic surgery and does not interfere with life, this is not the profile of the show: there are other projects and formats for this.

But, for example, they helped the boy-girl Ivanna. Project Producer Miroslav Domalevsky describe this story as follows: “We found out through many tests and studies that she was born a boy. But according to the passport, this is already a girl, and returning him to the body of a boy is not so easy: everything has been cut off from him, a vagina has been made. Gender change in our country takes about three years to obtain various permits, and from 30 to 40 days of observation in a psychiatric clinic. But we also take on such very difficult cases. Because we want to help."

What do we have

Our project is closest to the Ukrainian one. Doctors of the project Ekaterina Bezvershenko(dermatologist), Lyudmila Shupenyuk(obstetrician-gynecologist), Vasily Pariy(orthopedist-traumatologist) and Valery Oslavsky(trauma surgeon) will try to help people not lose themselves due to external imperfections. Why, for example, does a person walk with a hernia for 10 years and do nothing? Why did the patient let her breasts rot to the point where they rotted? You can get the most frank answers to these and other questions in the program “ I'm embarrassed of my body».
