Tyumen Regional Scientific Library named after Dmitry Ivanovich Mendeleev. Virtual book exhibition "AIDS without myths and illusions"

"Behave prudently - among thousands of people, only one dies a natural death, the rest die as a result of a reckless manner of being."

Medieval philosopher Maimonides

In the branch library No. 9

At the end of the 20th century, recklessness brought humanity to the brink of disaster. Identified in 1981-82 in the United States, the human immunodeficiency virus has rapidly spread across all continents. The world is currently experiencing a pandemic of infection that claims millions of lives every year. Therapy of this disease remains the most difficult and unresolved problem, since there are no means to radically cure patients with HIV infection. Therefore, the only way to stop the spread of the virus around the planet today is to prevent it from entering your body. You don't need to be afraid, you need to know! Know how the virus can enter your body and how you can protect yourself. Information support in this is traditionally provided by municipal libraries cities.

Using the possibilities of book collections, libraries traditionally carry out information and educational work: thematic book exhibitions are arranged, near which discussions and reviews of the presented publications are held.

November 30th V Branch Library No. 9 opened exhibition "Let there always be TOMORROW!" dedicated to World AIDS Day. Readers are presented with literature on the history of the disease, on the ways of transmission of the virus, syndromes and risk groups, treatment and prevention of HIV infection, books on drug addiction. As well as memos providing information on some of the topics listed above.

During the day, the exhibition held mini-conversations with readers of various age groups: "What is HIV?", "So that someone else's pain does not become yours", "Be prudent!".

The participants of the conversations learned that in the territory of the countries former USSR The first case of HIV was officially registered in 1986. Today, HIV cases have been detected in all regions of Russia. Among the most disadvantaged are Irkutsk, Samara, Orenburg, Sverdlovsk, Leningrad region and a number of other regions.

Injecting drug use remains the main route of HIV transmission, with young men and women under 30 years of age the most vulnerable. Their share in total number of people living with HIV in Russia exceeds 80%.

The librarians tried to convey to the audience the idea that the problem of HIV concerns everyone today. The virus does not choose people social position, lifestyle and habits and can enter the body of any person. Every 6 seconds someone in the world becomes HIV positive. It is up to you whether you change your behavior and stay healthy, or live with HIV.

Today, the HIV/AIDS epidemic in Russia is at a stage where it can be stopped. But until each of us changes our attitude to the problem and our behavior, it is impossible to count on the fact that the growth of new cases will stop.

Be prudent - let your children have tomorrow!
