“Moscow is starting to return to rustling book pages, so that young people get to know each other not online, but in person, feeling each other’s eyes, hands, and so that books return as meanings. That’s why our Library Night has turned into a Library Day. And this is a big street theater. Where do all the people become actors, characters. Today, from the very morning until late at night, overshadowed by the presence of Vladimir Mayakovsky, we are putting on a great eternal performance. Triumphal Square is a place filled with historical meaning, where poets and writers, journalists, actors, directors once gathered and said something important, and today we are returning this meaning to Muscovites and guests of the capital,”- said Vlad Malenko, actor of the Moscow Taganka Theater, director, author and presenter of popular television programs, member of the Union of Writers and the Union theatrical figures Russia.

The highlight of the evening was the performances of special guests of the program:

People's Artist RSFSR Sergei Nikonenko;

People's Artist of Russia Evgeny Knyazev;

Soviet actor theater and cinema, Honored Artist of the RSFSR Nikolai Dupak.

“I think Library Night is a continuation of the forgotten. 58 years ago, at the monument to Mayakovsky, like at other monuments, people also gathered and read poems and poems. And what is happening today is a continuation of the wonderful things that happened before, we have returned to high poetry. I remember when the film based on Stendhal’s novel “The Red and the Black” was released, this novel suddenly disappeared from libraries, because young people wanted to re-read it, to find some new facts. I think Library Night is a new beginning and a continuation of the forgotten, which will lead to young people going to libraries. To break away from tablets and laptops and devote more time to literature,” told Sergey Nikonenko

Evgeny Knyazev also shared his impressions of Library Night : “It seems to me that any event that is related to biblio (night, poetry, prose, and this is our culture) is needed in order to draw people’s attention to the fact that there are great writers and poets who should not be forgotten. That there are libraries that you need to visit. And the books that were written once upon a time need to be read. If we remind people that this is necessary, then who knows, maybe the halls will be full again. Although, what am I saying?! I was reading next to this square on March 27 in the Tchaikovsky Hall Queen of Spades, and the hall was full, 2000 people came to listen. I went to Abkhazia to read, and the hall there was also full. That is, people have a need, you just need to remind them of it. Therefore, I support this action, and today I flew here specially from Tallinn, but I could have come by train to speak at Library Night.”
