This year the jury selects the best works of art in three categories: "Modern Russian prose", " Foreign literature” and “Event”. Critic Nikolai Alexandrov put forward the book of the Scandinavian writer Per Petterson "It's time to take the horses away", because, according to him, "Petterson is one of the most powerful Norwegian authors of that generation", as well as Isabel Allende and her novel "Ines of my soul", because that "her expressive and unusually picturesque writing will not leave the reader indifferent, it is no coincidence that today she is called Marquez in a skirt."

Editor Julia Rautbort offered to award several books published by Eksmo at once: “We consider Zadie Smith the author of one of the most significant books of our time - Swing Time. The book forces the reader to look inside himself. The author shows two heroines who are opposed to each other. The man with the hollow inner world against a person with a filled inner world. Zadie explores inner and outer freedom and shows that a person who is inwardly free will never accept external unfreedom and will always be free from conventions.

Jury member Yevgeny Vodolazkin noted that for the first time two Slavic authors appeared on the list of Yasnaya Polyana nominees - Drago Janchar with the book I Saw Her That Night and Venko Andonovsky with the book The Navel of the Earth. "Venko - a famous person in the Balkans, Macedonian classic and friend of Kundera. The novel "The Navel of the Earth" consists of two parts, between which the connection is metaphysical, ideological, but not plot. The action of the first takes place in the Middle Ages, and the second - in our days. The novel is incredibly lively and energetically filled,” commented Vodolazkin.

Anastasia Milekhina, head of the German Book Center in Moscow, spoke about three German the authors who appeared on the list of nominees this year - Strauss Botho, Daniel Kelman and Timme Uwe, and the head of Phantom Press - about several books published by this publishing house and noted by experts at once.

The prize fund of the nomination "Foreign Literature" consists of two parts: 1 million 200 thousand rubles will be received by the laureate - foreign writer, 500 thousand rubles - translator of the book into Russian. 1. Nomination "XXI century".

The nominees for the Yasnaya Polyana Literary Prize in the 21st Century nomination are "thick" literary magazines, Russian publishing houses, and last year's prize winners.
