On May 25–26, 2016, the first congress of the Society of Russian Literature, headed by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus', was held in Moscow. The society is called upon to unite professionals and experts, teachers and parents in the matter of preserving best traditions Russian language and literature.

1 /

On March 9, 2016, the Society of Russian Literature was established, chaired by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus'. On May 25–26, Moscow hosted the first congress of this organization, which is designed to unite professionals and experts, teachers and parents, and cultural figures.

The President set tasks

Speaking at the plenary session of the congress, which took place in the Hall of Columns, Russian President Vladimir Putin stressed that “the preservation of the Russian language, literature and our culture are questions national security, maintaining its identity in global world».

According to the head of state, the Society of Russian Literature should “become a platform for developing consolidated approaches to promoting the Russian language, popularizing domestic literature, helping young and talented writers and, of course, solving the problems of philological education.

As Vladimir Putin explained, it is “not only about ensuring public and peer review training and teaching materials, but also on participation in the finalization of federal state educational standards in terms of the Russian language and literature, in the preparation of specialized training programs and a list literary works which must be known to the next generation.

“We must do everything so that knowledge of the classical and modern literature, competent speech has become an integral part of the life of the country, in fact, the rule good manners so that it becomes fashionable, so that our entire society takes care of their preservation and development,” the President stressed.

Is it realistic to solve these problems? Patriarch Kirill looks to the future with optimism. According to him, the opinion that "young people read little is a very controversial fact." Firstly, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church stated that not all young people read little, and secondly, this problem is not insoluble if there is a smart mentor nearby, a teacher who can instill a taste for reading and the desire to learn important lessons for life.

Therefore, according to the Patriarch, “pedagogical universities should become intellectual and cultural centers”, applicants cannot be accepted there on a residual basis, and the prestige of teachers should be comparable with the prestige of scientists and athletes.

He touched upon His Holiness and such pressing issues as the variability of school and university programs. In his opinion, one should not be afraid of variability - one should talk about the intellectual and spiritual content of programs schooling, about a reasonable balance of mandatory and optional components. The same applies to the list of literature intended for reading by students: there should be some kind of “golden canon”, which includes time-tested works of Russian classics, from which the language teacher could choose the best books, in his opinion.

Patriarch Kirill did not ignore the eternally relevant USE topic, criticizing the test part with a choice of answers. True, RAO President Lyudmila Verbitskaya corrected him that now such tasks are already excluded from the Unified State Examination in Russian language and literature and even shared some interesting news: in 2017, it is planned to introduce the oral part into the control and measuring materials in these subjects.

The speech of the Minister of Education and Science Dmitry Livanov made no impression on the congress participants. The reason is that he spoke about achievements and successes (about the increase in hours for studying the Russian language and literature; about the growth in the number of children participating in essay competitions; about the upcoming renewal of funds school libraries), while people gathered to analyze the accumulated problems requiring urgent solutions.

The teachers decided

This was evidenced by the discussions that unfolded at the meetings of the working sections that took place on the eve of the plenary session.

The most heated discussions took place at the section dedicated to the teaching of the Russian language and literature at school.

Section moderator, absolute winner of the competition "Teacher of the Year" (2012), director of the "Gymnasium No. 1520 named after. Kaptsov, Moscow, Vita Kirichenko set the tone for the discussion from the very beginning, posing the question point-blank: how to relate to the recently developed documents - the Concept of teaching the Russian language and literature and the Exemplary basic educational program for high school in these disciplines?

The leading section offered three options to choose from: 1. These documents are a given that must be accepted. 2. Treat these documents as temporary, in which teachers have the right to make changes at their discretion. 3. These documents will not have a significant impact on the life of the school, they can be ignored in their daily activities.

The participants adopted the second option as a basis. As it turned out, many people are not satisfied with the concept of teaching the Russian language and literature: the reason is that, despite a long professional and public discussion, not all teachers' opinions were taken into account in the final version. But since the document is a framework, it is still possible to make adjustments to it, and at this stage it is important to join the discussion of the action plan for the implementation of the concept.

As for the Exemplary Basic Educational Program for High School, the participants of the section decided to postpone its approval due to the need for revision.

In addition, experts intend to conduct an examination of all textbooks on the Russian language and literature included in the Federal List.

Finally, the idea of organizing a congress of language teachers in 2017 received general support.

Parents wanted to go back in time

No less heated discussion took place at the meeting of the section "The role of parents, parental communities and public organizations in the preservation of the Russian language", which brought together representatives of the National Parents' Association from 48 regions. During the discussion, one could hear the most different offers. For example, about the need to return to modern school unified textbooks and programs; about the introduction of the course of Russian literature instead of two separate subjects - the Russian language and literature. One of the parents suggested teaching children in elementary school to write with fountain pens with ink - they say, this is the only way to develop calligraphic handwriting ...

Summing up the work of the section, the chairman of the coordinating council of the all-Russian public organization"National Parent Association social support family and protection family traditions» Aleksey Gusev noted that a survey of more than 1,000 parents showed that the vast majority are dissatisfied with the quality of teaching and textbooks. Many people see a way out in the return of the Soviet school model, the traditional principles of education.

As Aleksey Gusev stated with regret, parents do not have sufficient competence to motivate children to study the Russian language and literature, to examine textbooks, so parental education is one of the priorities Society of Russian literature for the near future.

Preliminary results

By the way, teachers on the sidelines of the congress complained that parents in Lately perceive education as a service sector, put pressure on teachers, demanding high results in terms of current academic performance and final certification.

Yulia Uvarova, a teacher of Russian language and literature at Moscow School No. 825, told us that the USE has turned from a tool that tests the level of knowledge into an end in itself. With a shortage of hours for a full-fledged study of the Russian language and literature, a colossal amount of time is spent not on the development and upbringing of children, but on all kinds of diagnostics and monitoring, measuring meta-subject results, mock exams, and writing reports.

The bureaucratic shaft is devouring the school: it is no coincidence that the participants in the section “Russian Language and Literature at School” turned to the Ministry of Education and Science with a demand to take control over the expediency of collecting data from teachers by various organizations.

In addition, according to teachers, the unjustified pursuit of high scores, on the basis of which school ratings are compiled, leads to even greater stratification and inequality in the education system, increasing the gap between mass and elite schools.

Finally, teachers believe that when preparing events such as the congress of the Society of Russian Literature, more time should be left for lively discussions, both in real and virtual space. Many did not have the opportunity to express their opinion during the tense meetings, and the organization of a forum on the Web could greatly expand the circle of participants.

According to the director of the philological center of the united publishing group "DROFA" - "VENTANA-GRAF" and the candidate of philological sciences Larisa Savchuk, very important and actual problems- such as falling speech culture in society or creation special programs and textbooks for teaching Russian to migrants; increasing the role of the Russian language in interethnic communication; support for Russian specialists and Russian-speaking citizens near abroad, but it remains open question how all this will be implemented in practice, what powers and financial resources will receive for these purposes the Society of Russian Literature.

As for the decisions taken by the congress participants, not all of them can be assessed unambiguously, Larisa Savchuk believes. For example, the intention of specialists to postpone the approval of the Model Basic Education Program for High School may turn out to be a big problem for both textbook authors and publishers, who should prepare textbooks for the new Federal list by September of this year.

If we talk about the Concept of teaching the Russian language and literature, then, according to L. Savchuk, criticism is not entirely legitimate: according to her, this is a rather balanced document, which presents a reasonable combination of mandatory and optional parts, the balance of scientific and practical components is observed.

As she explained, opponents are not satisfied with the fact that the developers have focused on the communicative aspect of learning the Russian language, on the formation of practical skills (the ability to speak, write texts in different genres and styles), allegedly downplaying the importance of scientific and systematic principles. But it should be taken into account that good level communicative competence today is a requirement of the time and one of the main demands of society, reflected in school standards. At the same time, the balance between knowledge of the theory of language and the development of the ability to use it in one's speech practice depends on the qualifications of textbook authors and teachers.

“Russian textbooks are written by well-known linguists and philologists, in this area there is continuity and the preservation of the best traditions,” states Larisa Savchuk. - The only thing to really regret is the loss of such important procedure like testing new textbooks. But in our publishing house we constantly support feedback with the teaching community and promptly respond to their comments and recommendations in the process of reissuing textbooks.”

World renewal starts at school

In general, the first congress of the Society of Russian Literature was a success. He demonstrated the civic activity of the professional community, its interest in solving the pressing problems of studying the Russian language and literature. This gives hope that the Society of Russian Literature will become the same authoritative organization as the already existing Russian Historical and Russian Geographical Society, as well as the Royal literary society Great Britain, the German Goethe Institute and the Chinese Confucius Institute. They all play essential role in the popularization of science and the renewal of education.

And how can one not recall the words of the outstanding scientist Dmitri Mendeleev that "the renewal of the world begins at school" ...

On May 25-26, Moscow hosted the First Congress of the Society of Russian Literature (ORS), a recently created public organization headed by Patriarch Kirill. On the first day of the congress, the work was organized in sections, while the plenary session was held in the Hall of Columns on the second day.

The first congress of the Society of Russian Literature: in anticipation of a resolution

The ORS refers to this kind of public organizations that are born from above, and from the very “top”: he personally asked the Patriarch to head the Society Vladimir Putin, he also delivered a greeting at the congress itself. In the Hall of Columns, in addition to the participants and delegates of the congress, there were ministers, presidential aides, deputies of the Duma and the Federation Council ( for the most part left after the departure of the president). Such an organizational resource makes the powers of this public organization very broad. This is both a strength and a weakness of the Society - suddenly acquired power is tempting, you need to be ready for it. It will be clear in the near future how the ORC, whose presidium consists of more than 70 people, will dispose of this power.

Patriarch Kirill- the face of the new organization. It was his speech that opened the plenary session - and it was she who became the most balanced, bright and accurate speech of the congress. His Holiness spoke about how he sees the state of affairs with the teaching of literature and the Russian language in schools and universities. He spoke simply and figuratively, he managed to formulate the most ordinary things in such a way that they were filled with weighty meaning. According to the patriarch, when talking about literature at school, not only information is exchanged, but knowledge that goes from heart to heart, knowledge refracted through a person is important. Therefore, the figure of the mentor is the key here. It is the teacher who manages (or fails) to instill a love for reading books - and this formation of love and interest in literature should become his main task. Numerous bureaucratic things interfere with him - but a talented teacher can send a powerful emotional signal to the student even over these barriers.

Patriarch urged not to be afraid of variability in literary education. Main question is to choose between the best and the best, not the best and mediocre. Therefore, on the agenda is the definition of the "golden canon" (within which, however, its own variability is possible) and finding a reasonable balance between the basic, mandatory and variable parts of the program. The main thing, as the patriarch said, is to have a good head and kind heart- then the choice will be correct.

Recognizing congestion school curriculum, the patriarch suggested not to rush to abandon the classics. She is timeless. Orientation only to the modern, understandable, included in current context dangerous, because the context will subside, be forgotten, it will turn out to be momentary - "but Pushkin will remain forever." At the same time, the patriarch urged not to freeze at one point and not be afraid of change. He told how, during a concert on Red Square, he got into a conversation with an unfamiliar girl who was sitting next to him. She studies in the fifth grade - and completely amazed the patriarch with the depth of knowledge and freedom of judgment. “We weren’t like that, at her age, not only with the patriarch, I would be afraid to talk to the headmaster.” The children are different, the time is different - and the school should be different. But all changes must be thought out very well. Speaking about the reforms, the patriarch focused on the Unified State Examination: while supporting the idea of a unified exam in principle, he nevertheless sharply spoke out against test measurements of knowledge and called for an oral component to be introduced into the Unified State Examination.

Speaking about the sore points of the current humanitarian education, the patriarch emphasized that the ORS intends to deal with just them. And to solve urgent problems, it is necessary to consolidate different forces.

Other speakers spoke about this consolidation, about what has been done recently in the field of the Russian language and literature: the President of the Russian Academy of Education L. Verbitskaya, Chairman of the State Duma S. Naryshkin, Minister of education D. Livanov. Then exit to a short time visited by V. Putin, who welcomed the creation of the Society.

Then they turned to the reports of the leaders of the working sections of the congress. And then it became clear that real consolidation is still very far away. And the moments of consolidated applause during the speeches of populist experts-manipulators or indignant foot-stomping - well, where would the congress be without them? - rather cause sadness, reminiscent of other congresses of other times ...

The recommendations of the sections, which should be included in the final resolution of the congress, often contradicted each other, which corresponds to the picture of the real state of the professional community of the humanities. Some proposed to ban the concept of teaching the Russian language and literature adopted by the government, while others began work on a set of measures to implement it. Some needed a makeover. sample programs and making them uniform and obligatory, others said that this was impossible and unnecessary. The section of culture and art asked that the USE in literature be made compulsory, the section of parents - to return everything as it was in the Soviet school, increasing, for example, the proportion of “normative solemn, pathetic speech” surrounded by the child ... There were calls to introduce exams in Russian for journalists and television and radio workers and fire them for mistakes (in parentheses, we say that Ivan Alekseevich Bunin was called Andreevich on the stands in the corridor of the Column Hall, and the representative of Moscow State University in her speech named him Aleksandrovich - and, it seems, no one has lost their posts ...) And - and so on. There are a lot of proposals, it was impossible to create a resolution of the congress on the spot - therefore, it was decided to collect all the materials, summarize and post them on the ORS website.

It is not known what form the final resolution will take as a result. The congress took place, and it is gratifying that the problems of literature were discussed these days in real high level. But the main problem is that we have a lot of committees, councils and societies dealing with the Russian language and literature. And there are many conversations. Will OCR real power capable of not only discussing problems, but also solving them? And will it not be a source of new problems? How will the life of such a large organization be arranged and how will it establish ties with government agencies and society? Will he be trusted? There are many questions, and we will get the first answers to them when we see the resolution and compare it with what was said and proposed at the congress.

The Society of Russian Literature has been created in our country. This was announced by Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Rus' on March 9 this year, opening a meeting of the Patriarchal Commission for Culture in the historical park at VDNKh. The facade of the pavilion, which houses the historical park "Russia. My story", adorn the portrait of Alexander III and famous words emperor that Russia has only two allies - the army and the navy. Modern Russia added Russian literature to the number of allies. Apparently, sharp Russian word, according to the Kremlin (the patriarch said that the idea of creating a society comes from Putin), will help unite the country.

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church recalled that in the 19th and 20th centuries the Society of Lovers Russian literature at Moscow State University. However, the pre-revolutionary society was headed by writers and academics, and not by hierarchs, despite the fact that the Church was then state institution. “I accepted this proposal precisely because we are talking about the humanitarian dimension of our life, personality, society, state, and the humanitarian dimension is part of the Church’s spiritual responsibility,” this is how the patriarch explained the president’s proposal to lead the new society to him, the leader religious organization. By the way, the Society of Lovers of Russian Literature existed after the revolution, until the 1930s, in democratic Russia it was recreated and still exists. Patriarch Kirill, in his report at the meeting on March 9, mentioned a parallel structure, but believes that its activity was “practically stopped” in 2010.

The founding meeting of the Society of Russian Literature adopted a resolution that outlined the goals: “consolidating the efforts of scientists, teachers, cultural figures, the general public in order to maintain the leading role of literature and the Russian language in educating the younger generation, strengthening a single cultural and cultural educational space, development of the best traditions of domestic humanitarian education, cultural and educational activities”. The main activity of the society will be work related to recommendations for teaching literature in high school. One of these recommendations, according to media reports about the debate that unfolded after the announcement of the patriarch on the creation of the society, will be the formation of a list of literature for reading by schoolchildren. The problem of a common list has long occupied the minds of officials, and its discussion has even been raised to the presidential level.

“The history with the list of works has been going on for more than a year: it began back in the late 90s, when, in the name of the Unified State Examination - for the convenience of verification - a wide recommendation list works for school study was narrowed down and became the “Mandatory Minimum,” recalls Mikhail Pavlovets, Associate Professor at the School of Philology at the Higher School of Economics educational programs”, which is supervised by the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia. - Then came the so-called "Putin's list of 100 books", which every graduate of the Russian school should read, several alternative lists from different organizations and persons, and finally a list in the “Concept of School Philological Education”, which was developed by the Association of Teachers of the Russian Language and Literature (ASSUL), which brought together under its wing a mostly conservative part of Russian philologists. That “Concept”, contrary to the wishes of its creators, never received an official, normative status, but if you carefully read the list of the Society of Russian Literature being created, then in it we will find most of the names associated with ASSUL, and with the “Concept”, and with the same list.

According to Pavlovets, the ROC itself will not make any lists, but it acts as a patron of the group of experts, giving some administrative weight to their developments. “Although certain wishes will most likely be expressed,” the expert adds, “the position of writers, who, at a later date, must first be strengthened. Soviet time through the efforts of the leaders of the so-called Russian party in Soviet culture and education were recorded as “guardians” and “conservatives”: in this sense, Dostoevsky has an advantage over Tolstoy, Shmelev over Bulgakov (whose “Master and Margarita” has many questions from some believers - but not to his “White Guard”), Yesenin over Mayakovsky, etc. At the same time, hardly any meaningful names they will fall out of the list: the creators of such lists know that any author can be made a supporter of any ideology, including Orthodox-protective: it is no coincidence that in the context of the list, the experience of the Soviet school is recalled, in which Blok’s poem “The Twelve” was taught as an apology for the revolution, and “ Dead Souls"Gogol - as a denunciation of serfdom."

Indeed, on constituent assembly Patriarch Kirill more than once recalled the Soviet school with kind words and even admitted that during a recent visit to Antarctica he almost recited Gorky's Petrel aloud.

Previously Christian Churches made lists of banned books. The Catholic Index librorum prohibitorum is known. However, the Russian Orthodox Church imperial times contributed to the prohibition of "soulful" writings, such as: "On the causes and nature of the union in Western Russia» Kostomarov, «Folk Russian Legends» by Afanasiev, the 6th volume of the collected works of 1889 by Leskov (on the life of the clergy), «Resurrection» by Tolstoy, etc. Already today, a struggle is being waged now with Nabokov, now with Pushkin's The Tale of the Priest and His Worker Balda.

Immediately after the announcement of the creation of the Society of Russian Literature in the Church Commission on Family Affairs, a proposal was made to remove some of the stories of Chekhov, Bunin and Kuprin from the school curriculum. This statement appeared so out of place that the chairman of the Synodal Department for Church Relations with Society and the Media, Vladimir Legoyda, hastened to present it as a purely private opinion.

With the creation of the Society of Russian Literature, the ROC turns to the formation of its "positive" Russian and Soviet classics. Pavlovets says: “The mandatory list has several meanings: firstly, it is given the state meaning of the “spiritual bond” of the “single educational space of Russia” - so that, relatively speaking, in the Udmurt school of Tatarstan, the same “War and Peace” is read in literature lessons as in the Russian school of Kaliningrad or Sakhalin. This will emphasize the state-forming role of the ROC, which maintains a single list.”

It is not difficult to guess on what basis the Church will formulate its recommendations. “Our civilization has largely grown from the Christian understanding of the essence of being, from the Orthodox faith, which educates the beauty of the people’s soul, which is captured in Russian literature and art,” Patriarch Kirill formulated this position.

Literature is valuable in the eyes of the Church only if it meets the goals Christian preaching, - considers culturologist Roman Bagdasarov. - Let's try to imagine that today the Explanatory Dictionary of the Living Great Russian Language (which was once published by the Society of Lovers of Russian Literature) would be published under the editorship of Patriarch Kirill. He would have to include such words as “mazafaka”, “havchik”, “shmal”, as well as the immortal expression “soak in the toilet”. Is he ready for this turn? Hardly. Meanwhile, Dahl's dictionary contained stylistically similar words and expressions in abundance, because it set the task of showing the lexical composition that was relevant at that time as a whole. So it was conceived by Vladimir Dal. Only in this way is it possible to seriously judge the trends in the development of the language, all the more so to try to somehow influence them.

“This is probably why Patriarch Kirill and his associates decided to found another society, and not recreate the old one,” continues Bagdasarov. “Before Kirill’s announcement, not a single philologist, even at the level of honorary members, was a member of the Patriarchal Council for Culture.” The expert recalled that the preface to Dahl's dictionary was written at one time not by an ordinary specialist in philology, but by a world-famous linguist - Ivan Baudouin de Courtenay.

Similar fears in a tendentious approach, but already to literary heritage and the current literary process, Mikhail Pavlovets expresses: “Russian culture (and literature in particular) is too rich - and continues to be actively replenished in recent decades(including at the expense of previously prohibited or forgotten works): none mandatory list will not be able to give an idea of all the diversity - artistic, ethno-cultural, ideological and philosophical - of our literature, but on the other hand, he can leave part of this diversity overboard, and the other, much smaller part - through educational institutions, pass off as the main, peak. The expert recalls that, in accordance with the tradition established in the Soviet era, this is primarily realist literature. Participation in the discussion of the ROC, in his opinion, will additionally highlight works in which Christian motives are significant.

“A single list will make life easier for those teachers who simply do not have the resources or the desire to expand their professional horizons: once and for all, having mastered a certain mandatory list, you can work on it year after year, relying on the achievements of previous years: hence the participation in the project of members of the teachers' association. And finally, modern education is becoming more and more varied, its content is being updated following the successes of modern science and culture, which is why educational publishing houses suffer: textbooks cease to be the main source of information, in particular - in literature, the variety of books studied in different classes and schools kills the very idea of a textbook, and here a single list will be of great help (that's why representatives of some publishing houses are active in the story with the list). the main problem which such a list will not solve, but, on the contrary, will exacerbate, is the problem of “alexia”, non-reading modern children and youth. But supporters of the list do not see this as a big problem: they fight against the “hedonistic” approach to reading (confusing aesthetic pleasure with physiological), they speak of reading “classics” primarily as hard spiritual work that should be forced: the religious idea of the salvation of suffering is also included in the ideological arsenal of adherents of the list. Thus, the classics are perceived as something like the ancient languages that were previously studied in gymnasiums: these languages dead the trunk - but living roots, they are not in any way demanded by modernity - but they commune a person with eternity and tradition. This approach is not very popular. modern system education aimed at adapting a person to the fluid modernity and preparing him for an uncertain future: there is systems approach, the conflict of two cultural patterns, two systems of values, two understandings of the purpose of education. And one of them, with the active support of the state, has a chance to establish itself in our country for some time, despite the fact that in the historical perspective it is most likely doomed,” Pavlovets sums up.

The creation of the Society of Russian Literature will allow the ROC to expand its presence in the education system. The Moscow Patriarchate has long and regularly reminded that the existing format of "spiritual and moral education" in schools, namely the pluralistic course "Fundamentals religious cultures and secular ethics”, does not satisfy him at all. In addition to proposals to expand the ORSE for all years of study, from which the Ministry of Education and Science has so far successfully fought back, the Church is trying to invade other areas of knowledge. Recently achieved the recognition of theology as a scientific discipline.

The justification for such a strategy can be heard from the lips of Patriarch Kirill. " Domestic education assumed the development, as they used to say in the old days, of “the mind and abilities of the soul” with the help, on the one hand, of the exact sciences, emphasizing mathematics, and on the other hand, the Russian language, classical literature, history, ancient and new languages, the Law of God,” said the head of the Russian Orthodox Church. The Moscow Patriarchate is just these days discussing the draft “Educational Concept of the Russian Orthodox Church”, which states that “Throughout its history, the Church has striven for the churching of a culture that includes various aspects spiritual and social being of man, transforming it and filling it with Christian content.

The ROC is looking for more and more new ways of "churching" education and culture - and finds them. The state, it seems, is ready to give the entire humanitarian sphere to the "feeding" of the clerics. The benefit for the Church from this needs no comment, but the benefit for society remains a topic of discussion.
